Win 7 Antispyware 2012, Vista Antivirus 2012, and XP Security 2012 are all names for the same rogue anti-spyware program. This family of rogues is promoted in two ways. The first is through the use of fake online antivirus scanners that state that your computer is infected and then prompt you to download a file that will install the infection. The other method are hacked web sites that attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in programs that you are running on your computer to install the infection without your knowledge or permission. Regardless of how it is installed, once it is running on your computer it will install itself as a variety of different program names and graphical user interfaces depending on the version of Windows that is running. Regardless of the name, though, they are all ultimately the same program with just a different skin on it.

Just wondering here... if we have a anti virus program running and up to date like MSE etc, how does the rogue virus such as these pop in? shouldn't the anti virus running in real time spot it and stop it ??

many times these things get through vulnerabilities you may have in outdated things like java, adobe,not doing windows updates, and some come through clicking on links in websites that allow it to install, when you click something you think is to close out of something it could actually be to allow the infection to install on your pc.

antivirus programs are not perfect and in the cases of many types of malware you would be better off to have the addition of good antimalware programs like malwarebytes and superantispyware.

there are a dozen or more of this sort virus related to system version, I've suffered on my laptop named as XP security 2012,seems like they're the same just differs in name. This serious virus really a pain, for it pauses the Internet and break down system files

this step could fix the damage:

then go to end virus process and clean other things like files and folder...it won't be so hard..i've just got through it, wish you lucky.

Thanks for all the tips. I was able to restart in Safe mode and then do a System Restore.

I then updated AntiMalwarebytes and did a scan and have been better about updating since then. My antivirus software, Trend Micro, updates and scans automatically.
