cutlery discoloration and Miele(or otherwise) cutlery tray

We are still comparing dishwashers...(I have never been accused of making a quick decision.)

I have not seen the following issue mentioned: When we first got our current (now "occasionally" working) Maytag, I used the knife slots to load flatware in the cutlery basket. After a few loads, I noticed the knife blades were discoloring near the handle. With trial and error, I discovered that loading in the baskets without using the knife slots, we did not have these dark discolorations. So I stopped using the slots and my table knives are discoloration free.

I have read that people seem to love the tray option but I am now wondering if these same dark discolorations would occur with the Miele dishwashers cutlery tray. I do admit that my everyday flatware is not what would be considered high quality but I do not feel the need to replace it. I also don't want to spend more money for a dishwasher with a cutlery tray, only to find out that my flatware will have discolorations from the plastic slots for loading.

Does anyone have this experience? Advice?

Thank you for your input.
