Here's what it says (no mention of pre-heating):

MAIN BURNER OPERATION:

2. Push and turn the lower valve dial to the left so that the HIGH position on the
   dial is at 12:00. Immediately you will hear the spark igniter snapping and the
   top front burner will ignite.

3. Note: Until the burner has an adequate amount of gas it will not ignite

4. Repeat the same procedure for the upper valve dial, which will ignite the top
   rear burner.

5. When ignition has been accomplished a blue flame will be visible across the
   Entire face of the Infra-Red burner. After approx. 2 1â2 to 3 minutes the entire
   Burner surface will glow a bright orange red color.

Anyone have one of these and want to comment on how you like it?

I use it 6 out of 7 days a week. It is great, steaks, vegetables, fluffing omelets, bread, seafood and on and on. My oven has a complex.

Guadalupe,what's the difference between the raised griddle broiler on the Heritage and a salamander? We eat alot of steaks and I was wondering if I should get the salamander or just use the broiler on the Heritage.

Seems like a hell of a lot of money for something you aren't even sure you would use.
