AntiVirus 2009 Etc

Hello Everyone,

First, the good part is I have NOT downloaded anything, but the bad part is I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro which recently has been inundated with dire warnings from both AntVirus 2009 and also WinDefender. I also have these huge page popups that will just appear at anytime advertising everything you can imagine on every site I visit. Although I have not downloaded anything, I cannot figure out how so stop both these warnings and the popups.

Not sure how I picked up these things since I'm usually very careful and no one else uses my computer. I have gone to a game site recently that I was not that familiar with so I suspect that may be where I got into trouble.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much.

Barb, follow the suggestion given to other folks here and download, update, and run a scan with Superantispyware. It will get rid of those things for you. They'll only get worse if you do not do something. Make it a habit of keeping this program updated and scan with it often.

Undoubtedly you are right about where you picked up this malware. Game sites are notorious for this.

the antivirus2009 or 2008 is a very nasty malware infection, You do not want to click on anything it says, do not pay them any money! just install the superantispyware free program update it, select for it to scan your C drive then choose the full scan, when it is done allow it to clean anything it found. You want to hit the update button and run a full scan on your pc at least once a week.

Thanks so much Grandms and ravencajun for your replies. Yes, understand completely about not hitting buttons nor paying $$$$$ for anything.

Now, I do have a program called "Spy Sweeper" that I've used for a long time, so wonder if your suggestion about Superantispyware does the same thing, and if not, can I use both of them.

    Thanks again,

you can have both but use the superantispyware it is excellent and one of the very few that will clean this infection completely.

as to how you got it does anyone visit myspace? many myspace pages are infected and just by visiting them the pc becomes infected. It is a big problem on many of the social network sites.

Here is a link to dslreports where they show the behind the scenes action/code of what is happening when visiting those sites.

I have tried 3 times to reply to Ravencajun about this AntiVirus 2009, and each time I hit submit it says rejected cause I already have a message posted under that title and to change the subject line.....I did, I took off the etc part, and still rejected it. I then took off the 2009 part, STILL wouldn't go through! So, hopefully ravencajun will read this and see my reply below.

Thanks ravencajun---I'll use it right after I post this. As far as MySpace----no, I'm the only one who uses this computer and don't go there.

About the reply thing, you need to add numbers or letters to the subject line if you post more than once in a row. It's this forum not spyware.

Thanks Stargazzer. Not sure what you meant by this forum vs spyware, but understand now about the procedure for replying. Appreciate your answer.

Update. I just ran a full scan with Superantispyware and although they found a few things along with lots of cookies afraid some of the large popups are still showing up. Not as bad, but the worst one is still there---a porn one. Not sure what else to do, but it is better than it was, or at least is right now. As I'm writing this a large one for a car company just popped up and took over the whole screen.

ok you must have something else too in addition to the antivirus 2009

this is another program we use to clean this stuff it is also free get it and use it to scan.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware v1.18 should be able to remove this pest ... download it to the desktop.

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Thank you ravencajun, I'll do that. We're getting there I think. Not as many pop-ups, so some were definitely deleted. I do notice my computer is running jerky though, so I'll try your suggestion.

barbb be sure you do a reboot since it removed some stuff that might help a lot.

here is another site for malwarebytes that might be a newer version not sure.

Thanks again ravencajun----I ran it, and so far so good. I'll be able to tell more later, but as of now, no problem. Strange, after running the Superantispyware, this one found in a quick scan 56 MORE! So I'm thinking this might be the "mother" of them all, and I should use this as my new #1 program. I also have, besides these two, SpySweeper. Think I'm now loaded for bear, although I probably should not be too cocky.

    Thanks again,

good deal!! yea we have to break out the big guns some times LOL.
    Glad you are running better!

some programs do better at specific things so when we know what we are trying to fight we know better what tool to use.

but running your scans often is a good habit and remember to always always hit update on them prior to running!

Wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU! My Dell laptop started doing the same quirky thing today. The popups were driving me crazy and no matter what I did I just couldn't get rid of it. Thank you so much for the Superantispyware link. Everything is running smoothly now!

Good for you Efine50! glad you were able to get your's taken care of too.

Now just remember to hit update and run that full scan at least once a week to keep it nice and clean.

I just wanted to thank those that posted here about fixing the mess I thought we had.

I used the SUPERantiSpyware and it seems to have fixed our "Antivirus 2009" problem.

    THANK YOU!
