How about having your tile installer cut the tiles in half?

Then you have a sharp square edge on one of the four edges of every tile. If you do this, you need to have him cut off every factory edge, or it looks like garbage afterward.

We used 6x12 ceramic tile in our kitchen. Is ceramic okay or does it have to be porcelin?

I'll try to look up the brand name after supper.

I've never seen 6x12, but Walker Zanger has a 6x9, which is really fabulous. I think it's in their Architect series, which isn't shown in their online catalog. I saw it in their showroom in San Francisco.....it was showcased in a display and WOW!

Correction. The 6x9 Walker Zanger Architect Series is ceramic and not porcelain.

There are plenty of places that have 6x12 tile-- even porcelain. I'm just not sure about white. The companies I'd check would be Crossville and if you don't mind getting into the more costly tiles, check into a company called Graniti Fiandre. Both companies stick almost exclusively with porcelain, and have reputations for having products that no one else does.

6 x 12 is not a common size for tile, but still you can find them, the (the importer that got stock with large quantity ) usually take it off from a pattern called Versailles Pattern or French Pattern , and the sale it individual, much easier to sale it per size then Patterns this is where u see the 6 x 12 or 8 x 16 or other non regular tile sizes we use to.

Oops, ours are 4x12. I can't find the receipt, but the name on the box is Bella Casa. They came in 2 colours, Urban beige (cream) and Urban white.
