Having trouble deciding on floor choice for girly bathroom...

We have 6 daughters who will share a bathroom between their bedrooms in our new house. We've decided on white cabinets, white beadboard, apple green on the walls(something like SW Sassy Green), white subway tiles in the tub/shower surround, black framed mirrors, oil rubbed bronze fixtures/hardware, and a black and white floral shower curtain. I'd like to stick with a larger tile to avoid a lot of tiny grout lines. Any suggestions?

A picture I stole of the web for color inspiration..

This is the tile that we're using elsewhere in the house. It's neutral, but I didn't know if it'd look the best in the girls bathroom.

I'd use a simple white tile with charcoal grout. Had that for years in an apartment I was in. It was surprisingly easy to keep clean and went with everything.

Six girls! One layout suggestion -- Provide more well-lit mirror-space than the usual amount over the sink. That should greatly alleviate pressure on the sink(s).

One of the best bath designs I ever saw had a tall shallow cabinet with lots of small drawers and a standing-height mirror over it for stand-up make-up application.

no tile suggestions but... six girls in ONE bathroom? please tell me there is more than one toilet and vanity!

We have 5 girls in our family. When growing up 3 of us shared 1 room and all of us shared 1 bathroom just fine. 1 more won't hurt! LOL!!!

I like the idea of the white tile with charcoal grout. Remember that porcelain is stronger than ceramic.

Thank you all. I like the suggestion of white tile w/ charcoal grout. Will look for that.

In our 20yrs of marriage we've never had more than 1 3/4 bathrooms and have somehow always managed fine, even with a houseful of girls(and 2 boys). However, we are all very excited about having 4 bathrooms in the new house. The girls bathroom will have tub, shower, toilet, and large linen cabinet in one room and an extra long double sink vanity with lots of countertop and drawer space in an adjoining room. They ought to have plenty of room to primp, although so far all the teens are fairly minimalist in that area. Total opposite of how I was at that age. Hee hee. Anyway, thanks again for the input.:-)

    You're welcome and good luck!

By the way, that wall color is very similar to what we put in our guest bathroom. We used Sherwin Williams Celery and it's very pretty. Our flooring is a dark chocolate (almost black) marble and that combination works equally as well together.

Thank you for the paint recommendation. I'm going to get a sample of it when I get the SW Sassy Green too.:-)

I wouldn't go with the white tile for the follwoing reason:
    HAIR!
Yes you are going to clean your bathroom regularly but withall those girls, there will be lots of bruxhing and blowdrying and hair everywhere.
We have white tile in our summer home and when the whole family is there (this summer it was 3 families total) that bathroom looked gross no matter that we cleaned it daily. Mind you we also had sand to add to the mix but still.
How about a black and white checkered or mosaic floor? That might hide it a bit better and go with what is sounding a bit vintage in style?
    good luck!

I have seen some really pretty charcoal colored 12 x 24 porcelain tiles in my searches. That would look great against the white subway repeating the same rectangular shape and tie in the dark framed mirror.

What about gray tile for the floor? I used a gray porcelain that had a greenish tone to it for a bathroom with green walls. Bought it at Lowe's.

My sister had 7 kids sharing one hall bath until we helped her put another bathroom in her basement. Of course they're all still pre-teen, so that helped. And now she's given birth to #8. I grew up in a family of 9 kids and we shared 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms without too much grief. Kids today are just spoiled. :-p

Ahh.. I didn't think of hair with the white tile. Good point. Maybe I'll look for a gray tile instead. Thanks again everyone.:-)

Mitri, Dark flooring with the green you're considering is a beautiful combination. We have chocolate marble for our guest room floor. It's too slippery for a bathroom that gets a lot of use, but there are lots of char colored tiles that would work. If you prefer stone, black noir travertine is also a great choice, it's really pretty.
