If you've got some time on your hands, call a couple local roofing supply houses that carry Certainteed and Tamko and ask them for addresses where the type of shingles in the color you want are installed. I got lists of addresses from 2 different supply places (they were happy to give me the addresses) and spent a couple days driving around looking at people's roofs. There's nothing like seeing it in person - I almost chose a color that looked gorgeous in the brochure pic (a full installation on a house) but when I saw it in person, it was hideous!
