Who installed your appliances? Kitchen GC or appliance dealer?

We are currently scheduled to have our appliance dealer do our appliance install as they're "certified" and as such we'll receive an extended warranty from SZ/Wolf and Miele if they do the install.

But our GC has been regaling us of tales of damage caused by "certified" installers to cabinetry, floors, etc. not to mention installations he needed to fix.

Have those of you who have had your (higher end) appliance dealer install your appliances had good luck, or is it smarter to have the GC do it because they will be more protective of the cabinets they've just installed, floor they've just had a sub stain and finish, etc.?

The GC might not take the time to do everything to follow the letter of the SZ/Wolf/Miele instructions, but then again the "certified" installer might not, either.

The extended warranties seem a no-brainer but not if they damage our new base cabinets or floors.

We're not talking Best Buy here, but obviously a SZ/Wolf/Miele dealer, but obviously their "certified" delivery folks could just be a bunch of 21 year-olds making $8/hour that took a 30-minute install class, too. :(

My GC, and he sucked at it. :) My GC did it for my previous remodel and did a great job.

So...depends on who you get!

Well, the appliance store guys did the installations, under the eagle eye of my GC . . . . (plus he works with these guys a lot, so he knew they were OK).

All my "high end" appliances (Aga, Liebherr, Miele, Modern-Aire) were installed by my GC except for the Miele dw. For that, I used a "certified technician" in order to take advantage of the extended warranty offer. Well, the Miele certified technician did, indeed, manage to damage the cabinetry front panel of the dw upon install. However, he immediately filed a claim with his insurer and paid for its replacement without a fuss. Good luck!

Appliance dealer and the guy they sent knew everything about every appliance. He gave tips about using the GE Monogram oven and GE Monogram induction cooktop, the Miele dishwasher and the F/P dishwasher drawer. He even came back on the weekend when we discovered during the installation that the electrician had not wired properly for the induction cooktop and the installation had to be delayed until the electrician fixed the wiring. I know we probably lucked into a real gem but in general I would go with someone who did this every day for a living rather than someone who did this as part of a larger and more diversified job. HTH.

Installers from the appliance store did the installation, and it was a reputable store that we've dealt with before with experienced installers. Our project manager was on-call if needed and he stopped in to check on the install. All went well.

DH installed the kitchenaid fridge, GE drawer fridges and with the help of our plumber the Miele. Also, DH with the help of our HVAC guy installed the Viking Range. I should mention the DH is the GC on this job (not by trade but he is good). THE appliance store didn't even offer the service to install that I was made aware of.

appliance store installed all of ours (but GC was there for the install). they did a fantastic job, had to deal with panels and integrated units (SZ, wolf)
