It's a little risky. All other things being equal, It's better to purchase major appliances 6 months to preferably a year after they first come out. Even the best manufacturers will have unforseen issues come up in new lines. That being said, if you're dealing with a quality manufacturer known for excellent customer service and they have an item that no one else has and you can't wait, it can be worth the risk.

While GE probably doesn't have as good a reputation as American, The GE Profile line was very well received. Since the new GE Cafe oven was supposed to based off the Profile line and initial GW feedback was positive, I bought a GE Cafe Range on sale last December (scratch & dent) about six months after initial release. While it sat in my garage waiting to be installed, negative comments on GW came pouring in and I started sweating bullets. As it turns out I've been very happy with my GE Cafe range. I don't know if it's because I've been lucky or because they caught and corrected several of the problems just before mine was made. HTH & hope you get exactly what you want.
