Please vote & show me pix of your 1' and 2' white hex floor tiles

Finally, finally, finally decided on white hex floor tiles. I think I like the 2" as being less busy, more tile, less grout, but would like to hear your opinions. Will probably have blue daisies (thanks Mongo & Bill).

I don't have any pictures to share, but my vote would be for the 2". I think the bigger tile gives you the traditional look, but with an updated feel. Congrats on your decision...you really can't go wrong!

If you're going to do daisies, You might want to stick with the 1" tiles. With the 2", they might look a little overbearing. I think you've already seen all mine, but here goes nuttin!

Bill, thanks much! My mom voted for hex tile after she saw your beautiful pix! My concern with the 2" tile, which came specifically out of your last pic, is not having it look like chicken wire. I have chickens, I've put hundreds of feet of chicken wire all around my property (to no avail), and I hate that stuff! I wonder if having grout closer in color to the tile will de-emphasize the "wire"?

    It most certainly would.

I love the hex tiles...plan to put it in our upstairs bath. My vote's for 1"...all the way. Aesthetically speaking I like it the best.

Bill, do any of your above photos with the 1" hex have off-white tile? I have the same concern as Blue about the maintenance. I did white grout for our kitchen backsplash but I would never do white grout for bathroom floors. So I'm thinking a platinum grey grout with 1" hex...but want to be sure that it doesn't look too contrasty.

Sorry for derailing a bit, Blue!

redrose-- actually, the second one is johnmari's bathroom that I did for her, and the hex is almond, with almond Spectralock, not white. As for the grout, one thing alot of people are going to now is using a light grey, beige, or pastel colored grout instead of white grout with the white 1" hex. It mot only makes the tile stand out a little more (and if you're doing a period room, the grey is still acceptable as period specific), but it also makes it a little easier to keep trh grout looking clean.

Bill, I LOVE johnmari's floor. I would like to use the same for my remodel. Could you post more information about the tile? Manufacturer? What colors are the border? they look green and black on my monitor. thanks!

The floor was either AO or Dal, and I believe it was AO (American Olean). Either way, the color was Almond. As for the border, it was a strip of 1x1 square Almond, A stripe of Burgandy, and a stripe of Olive Green, and then the Burgandy and Almond again on the other side of the green.

I vote for the 1" as I'm about to install them into my 3 X 6 powder room which has white beadboard walls. I've chosen white hex with gray grout. But I have a question. Most pictures I've seen show a trim in black or a contrast color with the white hex tiles. What is your opinion? An improvement or not?

Sue, that's completely up to you. Some people like a hard contrast like that, and some don't. That would be completely up to your taste.

Digging through my archives this week
Here's 1" hex in my master - thanks again to Bill V! It's hard to find 1" hex AO makes it, Dal doesn't or maybe they do but it's unglazed
    I personally prefer the 1"

Have other pics if you'd like

jejvtr-- Is that the floor with the colorant, or did it start out as grey grout? (I have a feeling I asked you this once already, but I'm gettin old, and my mind is feeble. :-) )

NO that startted out with the right color grout....mapei silver maybe - because I went to the PRO for answers BEFORE install - you know measure twice .... cut once ;)

I have the best of both worlds, 1-1/2" white hex, with white grout, and I think it looks awesome. I think white grout is definitely the way to go, looks cleaner and fresher. I'm heading out right now, but I'll post pics if you'd like. It just got done last week, finally!

where are you all getting this hex? It is hard to find here is Florida.

Any place that carries Daltile will carry the white hex that I posted.

    I vote 1", definitely.

Here's a not-so-great shot of some of ours. (You can see it best in the mirror).

Just redid our small masterbath using hex tiles on the floor (also walk-in shower - no tub) and shower niche. It's 1-in purchased from Lowe's and directly from the local Dal Tile distributor. We like the finish product a lot. Here are some photos.

    WHAT A GREAT NICHE!!! COOL!!

Nopushover-- That's some excellent workmanship-- not just the niche (which is outstanding!), but the entire installation!! Bigtime kudos to the installer!

    bill_vincent & pepperidge_farm,

Thanks for the kind words. I'll be sure to pass them on to our contractor, who did all the work, tile installation included (with some inspiration and supervision from me - luckily this contractor knew when to ask questions).

Nopushover, would you mind saying what brand and color or grout you used? NICE! Right now I'm leaning towards the Oyster gray color in the Prism line, but it does seem a bit light.

Blue, I vote for 1" hex, too. That's what I've just used in my very small bathroom. If it ever does get grouted, I'll try to post a pic. Good luck.

OMG -- now I know why I stopped obsessively checking this site after I finished my bathroom: "I coulda done that!" "I shoulda done that" "Why didn't I wait and do THAT!!"

    nopushover that is utterly fan-freakin-tastic!!

    Arggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
