'not enough Virtual Memory'

I had Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 on my old PC with Windows XP . NOw I load it on my new PC with Windows 7 and I get messAGE "could not start...the volume Windows is using for Virtual Memory does not have enough free space......increase available Virtual Memory" How do I do that or can I do that?

Windows uses real memory (RAM) and when it runs out, it uses virtual memory (swap file on the hard drive).

If you're running out of virtual memory space, you need to clear some space off the hard drive.

Normally I would agree with bpgreen's assessment but as you have a new computer I find it hard to believe you could have filled the hard drive. Not impossible of course. Click Start, click Computer and you will see your C: drive listed, check to see how big the hard drive is and how much free space is available. You need 25% free space for the swap file to work properly.

Running an older version of PSE in Vista or XP Compatibility Mode often fixes these problems. To change the compatibility mode try the following:

1. Right-click the PSE icon on your desktop or in the Start Menu and select Properties > Compatibility.

2. Select Run This Program In Compatibilty Mode For, and try the various versions of Vista and XP.

Please note: I've seen many that have the same ERROR as you are having using PSE 2.0 on a new Win7 and the amount of VM allocated is WAY more than enough, so this could be a possible compatibility issue.

Also, how much RAM do you have installed and is this a 64-bit system?
