can I have 2 Quick-Tabs at one time...

Can I have 2 Quick tabs appear on the same screen- like a split screen tv?

It would help so much when trying to follow directions to do something.

thank you

You would need some special software to do that, or you could open two windows and resize each window to fit half of your screen.

Here is a link that might be useful: doublevision

camp56- I am glad to know there is something- maybe it will help me learn how to do things better on the computer.

Speaking of computers....when I try to download double vision (I have Firefox 3.1), nothing happens, except it takes me to a 'AVS Downloader'. Am I supposed to download this??

    thanks

I too was going to go get it, and it takes me to AVS Video Converter. That doesn't sound right at all. I'm going to hold off until someone can address this. I sure don't want to download bad crap.

I use "tile windows horizontally", with my memory, it's a great help. For somethings I click and drag from on to the other.

here is the direct link to that firefox extension it is called DoubleVision
    DoubleVision

I also meant to post that extension is still rated as experimental and has some parts that do not yet work you can read the reviews and advanced info about that on the page if ou click on reviews.

You can always open another instance of firefox and drag the edges of each to resize them both to your liking so that you can fit both on the screen, put the cursor on the bottom corners till it turns into a double sided arrow the drag the corners in to resize.

That seems like a lot of trouble when all you have to do is "tile windows horizontally" or "tile windows vertically." After all, that is what it is designed for and can be done with fewer mouse clicks and less trouble.

    Just a thought.

Well, I see that link will not work as it is for older versions of FF. hmmmm....why do things always seem to be so complicated for me.

Sue...who downloaded the AVS Video Converter (in error) and deleted it...sigh

I'm over the stupid Double Vision for now, since I can't find where to download it for my version (?) of FF.

That seems like a lot of trouble when all you have to do is "tile windows horizontally" or "tile windows vertically."

So how exactly does one do that please?

    Sue,

I can only speak for Windows up to Windows XP, but on those Operating Systems, all you have to do is right-click on the task bar, and select which way you want to tile the windows you have open. HTH.

Marooma, tiling works the same way in Vista as well. But this does not work for Firefox. You can open an IE window and a Firefox window and then select tiling on the IE window and you will then have the IE window and Firefox side by side.

    camp56,

Maybe Vista is different but on Windows XP I can open another Firefox window (not tab) and it tiles just fine either horizontally or vertically using right-click on the Windows taskbar.

    Terry

Terry, on my computer with Vista there is no option on a Firefox window in the Taskbar to tile windows. The option is only available when I right click on an IE Window. I don't see any setting in Firefox that would change that, but maybe I am missing something. My daughter is borrowing my XP machine at the momemt so I don't have it here to see if it is any different. I am using the latest version of Firefox 3.

    camp56,

From what I've been able to find out using Google, Windows Vista uses different terminology for the same thing.
    ----------------
To arrange your open windows, right-click an empty area of the taskbar, then click Cascade Windows, Show Windows Stacked, or Show Windows Side by Side.
    ------------------
This was found near the bottom of the page at the link below.

Well, I don't see a way to tile pages with FF...sigh.

Oh well. Maybe sometime I can find out just exactly what version of Double Vision I need and find a way to get it downloaded.

BTW...how do I find out what version of FF I have?

    Sue,

The tile windows is a Windows function, not a FF function. By right-clicking on the "Windows Taskbar" and selecting tile vertically or horizontally, it will automatically tile whatever windows you have open.
To determine the version of FF you have, on the Firefox toolbar, click on Help, and about Mozilla Firefox.

To determine the version of FF you have, on the Firefox toolbar, click on Help, and about Mozilla Firefox.
Yes, that helped (not that I will remember it...sigh) and I see I have Version 3.0.3

I also found the FF Forum I did a search there for Double Vision and didn't see anything that applied to getting it.

I'll maybe ask about it over there sometime later, and will copy the answer here. I hope they are as nice and understanding over there of someone being computer challenged, as the folks are here.

What Terry is saying is to right click on the Windows Taskbar....down at the bottom of your desktop where the Start button and the clock are. You won't find it in FF.

Thanks Terry, I got it working properly now. I went to lunch before you posted, and I was thinking about this and realized that this is a Windows function and nothing to do with being Firefox or IE windows. I think I wasn't paying close attention to where my cursor was when I was clicking and may not have really been on the taskbar.

Sue, I was using an older version of Firefox with the DoubleVision on an XP machine before and it worked ok for me, but I haven't installed it on my Vista machine. Sorry if the new one isn't working for you.

    camp56,

Glad to help and that it worked for you.

    Terry

Ok...I got cascade windows working using FF. I see 1/2 of 2 pages side by side.

    Camp56,
If one has Double vision, does it show 2 complete pages side by side, and both of them are just skinny, or does it just show like it does with cascading Windows...ie 1/2 of 2 pages?
Cascading windows seems no better really than just having 2 tabs open and going back and forth, since you can't see all of either page when they are cascaded.

    Hey ilmbg,

    You still with us?

    Sue

Sue, when I used the older version, it was 2 complete pages side by side. I don't have the computer anymore that this was installed on so I can't tell you the version number I used. It was on my work computer.

In Windows, you should also have the option to show two windows side by side, not just the cascading view.

for those of you wanting the split screen options here are a couple of good alternatives, Gizmo gives them both high marks so that means they are good and safe.

In my previous post I said "tile horizontal" when I meant "Vertical". I just opened two pages and it tiled vertically without any problem. I use Firefox 3

I am probably wrong on my last reply. I had this page open and opened something that wasn't Firefox. I think I will go and take a nap now. LOL

Sue...I'm guessing that your screen shot is of 2 pages cascaded...right?

Neither page is a complete page, so I'm thinking, "Just what good it that?" As I said b4...having 2 separate tabs open would be better, IMHO...as one could see the entire page of each one.

Sue_VA's picture is side by side not Cascaded. Cascaded has each window overlapping the other all across your screen and you have to change to each window to see all of it completely. Even on a huge monitor, you will likely have to do some scrolling to see all of each window. I have a 24 inch monitor and I can see all of some pages side by side but most of time that is not be true.

Sue_VA's picture is side by side not Cascaded.

So how is that done...can it be done with FF 3? Does it require a program be downloaded.

I doubt if it would be worth my while as my screen is not that wide. If it does not show 'all' of both pages, then it is of little use.
Note...a good bit of Sue's page on the right cannot be seen...again...2 tabs would be as good or better, INHO.

    chemocurl,

As I've posted before, it's a Windows function. You can tile any open programs as shown in the illustration above. It doesn't have to be only FF. The illustration above shows windows tiled vertically (side-by-side for Windows Vista). The other was is tiled horizontally (stacked for Windows Vista). If you have two windows (or more) open, you can simply right click on the Windows Taskbar, and select what option you want to use.

    Terry

The two windows are tiled vertically. You do that with a right click on the Task bar. Or you can Cascade or tile horizontally.

In the screen shot they are "scrunched." I pulled them as close together as I could on my screen. When you are actually working with them you can lay one part way on top of the other and toggle back and forth. The SS is not perfect, but does give an idea of the end result.

    Yea!!

I have been consumed for a few days with trying to figure the dishwasher drawer,(broke), so have been gone from my question.

Thanks so much- I could not load the Double Vision, either, but the tiles are just what I wanted!
    Thanks!!

    Now... on to next question....

There is actually a great firefox addon that lets you split the screen into multiple screens, here is an article and the link.
