Kitchenaid is offering $100 rebate on selected stainless steel DW models through Monday...at least at Lowes. Not sure if it's all retailers. I know that's not a bunch.... I have also seen a few stories about a "cash for clunkers" type appliance program "coming soon" but no date given. Those deals will be in the $50 to $100 to several hundreds of dollars depending upon which appliance you replace.

Cash for clunkers is scheduled for April 2010. And it only includes some appliance types, DW, Refrig, W/D. No ovens/ranges. I assume appliance companies will lower prices to entice you to their brand (or dealers, to their store) when that happens. Too little, too late for me.

Might be too late for you, but Best Buy has a great deal - 20% off all major appliances if you buy 4 of them at the same time. Plus 2 years at 0% interest.

Sears will be having a friends and family (20%?? on Kenmore)percent off starting Dec. 6. I have a flyer around here somewhere that gives the details. Check with a salesperson at Sears, they will tell you the best combination of ways to cut the price down. Taking out a Sears card also gives you a percent off. I also read on the net that the best time to buy appliances is Sept./Oct. when the new models will be coming out and the old ones go on sale. Black Friday didn't help me either.

Check out the cash-for-appliances rebates. Each state has their own rules, so you'll want to check what they're doing in your state. Florida, for example, is offering up to 40% off (!) but they don't want to run out of money like the cash for clunkers deal, so you'll have to register in advance to get qualified for the rebate and then buy the appliance during the rebate period.

I am in NC and it's the last weekend of this month. We get 15% off the price (not tax or shipping, only the item), but here the retailer just takes it off at the point of purchase and they have to file for the rebate.

We will probably buy a new fridge and perhaps a small chest freezer.

I think SC is the entire month of April, but I'm not sure. I work in SC, but it goes by where you live.

Gsciencechick--do you know if this is for replacement purchases only or new building buys? I heard that you had to have an old appliance for trade-in. We just moved to NC and building right now.

Texas already did it's registration for rebates (what a mess!) but even those who did not get a rebate reservation can take advantage of the Energy Star appliance sales. Sears will have all energy star appliances on sale for 30% off next week -- at least here and in FL, and I suspect other retailers will be competitive to make sure they get a piece of the action. You can get most any appliance on a 10-15% sale pretty regularly at Sears. The other big box stores run regular sales too, If you don't have a dead fridge (the one thing I couldn't wait for) and can wait, you just need to watch for the one you want

Traceyb, you are supposed to be replacing old appliances, so new builds are not eligible supposedly, but since there is no "check" that you actually got rid of the old appliance, I don't know how they could tell if it was new build or not, unless you have to sign some affadavit.

Our fridge is from 1995 so not energy efficient, but I was hoping to donate it to a local charity who will accept an appliance that old (Habitat for Humanity will not).

When I talked to the retailer we are interested in working with, she said details were still coming in.

In Texas, you DO have to prove that you recycled or disposed of your old appliance. It's on the rebate form.

I need a DW and Refrigerator. Glad to be rid of the old, but not sure where to recycle! (You get an extra $75 if you recycle.) Anyone know?

response to gina: Sears is the only place I've seen that recycles. The only place that has the model Samsung I want is Lowe's and so far nothing from them about recycling. If anyone gets word about recycling for the TX rebate program, please post.
