Pictures! Pictures! Pictures!

The rockers are almost done! They still have the posts on the front porch to rock but I am loving it! Some of the mortar looks darker because they finished up the main part of the house today. Tomorrow they are starting the sheet rock and I hope they are going to rock the posts!!

Had to start off with a view of the sunset from the back porch!

Sorry I put in so many pictures! I went crazy with the camera and have about 20 more pictures! I did not get all sides of the house but once more trees are cleared out I will try to get better pictures. I can not WAIT to see the sheet rock up!

Oh wow, Kelly! What a beautiful house! Love the rock work!

What kind of ceiling do you have in your porch? And what wood are your porch posts made from?

Your house is really coming along!

Kelly, I really, really like your rock! It's sooo cool that your house is moving so quickly. Hope you continue to have such good luck!

    Kate.

I think it is hardiplank to be honest. The wood posts are cedar.

Thank you for the kind words! I am loving the rock and am so so happy with the job they have done. I like how it looks rustic. I just need a rusted roof to get the whole look we are looking for! LOL!

Thanks Kate! I hope it keeps moving along. It has been pretty exciting the last few days! I can hardly wait to go back out tomorrow!

Happy for you. Can't tell really, but it looks like that sunset view shows you sitting up on a hill back there? Are they gonna clear out those back trees?

I know you're not thinking furniture yet--touchy issue! But, I'm thinking about that rocking chair front porch. It's so rustic; don't know what chairs would look best. Trying to think historically for your area. Around here, with that look, the historically correct seating pieces for the porch would be old wooden Coca Cola crates stood up on end. The men would perch on them. And chew tobacco and spit. Uh, not on MY new porch!

    The rock looks great!

I thought they looked like cedar! That is what we will be using on our front porch...we are cutting them from our property and our builder has a sawmill and will plane them for us. Nice to see what they will look like!

pinktoes - yep we are on a hill. Our property goes down and ends up on a flat canyon with a creek running through it. (wet weather creek but from all the rain it has been flowing and we have two springs!). We are up on top. Pretty close to the road but we wanted that view plus the foundation would have killed us to build on a slope.

I have been thinking about furniture out side as well. The rock really turned out very rustic looking so any ideas I am all for it!! Speaking of spit....our GC spits and he spit in the house yesterday! I said "GROSS!" carry a cup or something dude!" I am trying to talk DH into a knotty alder front door! I think it will fit in so good. Our cabinets are knotty alder. If anyone has a picture of one send it my way! kelly-elliott@hotmail.com
anything to push DH in that direction!

ajpl - thank you! I am really loving the rock! These subs have been favorite so far. They are super nice, super clean and do a great job!

Jenny- you are lucky that the builder has a sawmill! We have cut down so many cedar and we want to use them for posts and stairs leading down to the creek. I was unsure of the cedar at first but I love them. We do already have to pressure spray them and then seal them. They are already getting molded but we did have a ton of rain and they sat in the rain for a week straight. I am very happy with them and glad the builder put cedar in!

WOW! Absolutely STUNNING stonework Kelly!! Congrats that your build is going so quickly, I'm excited for you to see the sheetrock go in lol!!

Kelly it's looking great! Once that sheetrock goes up, it's really going to feel like a house. Love the rock!

    Eww on the 'chew' conversation!

    Thank you loralee!!!

pinktoes - I forgot to tell you that, yes, we are clearing the back yard. We have a ton to do but here is what we have so far!

We had cleared a bit behind where DH is standing but here is a before from a few weekends ago!

Where Lauren is standing you could not even get in there through all the cedar trees!

I see years of work ahead of us but I am looking forward to every minute of it!

Thank you lindy! I about fell over when he spit in the house.....Good ole' Texas boy I guess!!! Good thing he is good looking!!!!!!!! HEE HEE!

That's what I was thinking and I see you're on it already. I thought you were on a hill and if you could just clear some trees you'd have a gorgeous view. I see you do!

The house is looking good Kel.

Good lookin or not, he aint spitting in my house! I had to get onto several workers about that and they all would roll their eyes. I told them if they wanted to come back and clean it all before we moved in I could charge it back to them. :) They were always happy to see me coming.

Kel! It looks so awesome!! Your stone is rustic and beautiful, it screams for knotty alder and wide plank floors! Unless you don't want hardwood, I can't remember. Whatever you pick will be just gorgeous and I am grateful to you for sharing it! Wow, that view is something special. I envision many mornings with coffee and evenings with wine... Oh, that would be me.

Yeah, the spitting I'm not much on. I have had to step over plenty of nasty spitwads and have made my own comments. My GC said, "Oh, that's how it is. They really are great guys" (which I don't dispute) That reminded me of one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite and most-quoted movies, "Steel Magnolias"... "Yeah, I'll bet he moves the dishes out of the sink before he pees in it"...

Wonderful rustic stonework. Any details on it? I wonder if the bottom sides of the window sills were grooved for water runoff.

Thanks Txgal! I had to laugh at your comment how they loved to see you coming! Our subs love to see me on the last day because they know they are getting a couple of six packs! The framers hated to see me because I got on them about their trash all the time!!

Amy - I LOVED Steel Magnolias!!! It was my favorite movie but I do not remember that line. I need to go and rent it again! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE wide plank wood floors. I can not sell DH on it. I really think if I get this job next week I am interviewing for he will go for it (money issue more then anything)! Keeping fingers crossed. I saw a wide plank floor today that I fell in love with...DH loved it also!!! I just can not find a tile floor I like at all. Maybe because my heart really wants wood. GC keeps telling me I would crazy to get wood with the dogs, cat, kid. DH agreed to look at the alder doors again so I am happy about that :-)

Worthy - The stone is sandstone, it was all hand chipped and done with a Texas Tan mortar. The window sills are all slanted a bit for water run off. I am not sure if there are grooves in it though. I will have to find out on that! Thanks for the info!

It looks awesome! Love the back poarch! Did your sheetrockers show up this week? Ours will be there Monday. I plan on doing cedar beams for our posts too, awesome to see some in place.

Our GC spits too but so far I think he's only done that outside. One of his guys was smoking and dh got on to him. I found a few butts the other day while cleaning and said to him "If I find another cigarette butt...." He quickly replied "Hey it's not me! I know the rules!"

jeannekay - thank you so much! You will love the cedar beams!

The sheet rockers did not come last week. They want the power hooked up and the electric company is taking their time! I hope sometime this week!

I loooove your rock! That type of sandstone is what so many old buildings look like in my area, and I love it. Especially in the shot of the breakfast area, the way the windows are, it looks like an old school building or something, which I love.
    Congratulations!

I found tobacco spit inside my house the other day after the guys finishing the sheetrock had been there. It's not that big a deal to me, but it's gross that people would just do that.

owl at home - thank you so much! DH loves the breakfast windows also! I am about to post the front porch pictures that they finished! I really love the look of it. I am very pleased.

The tobacco spit it gross just to see someone do it. YUK! I am finding a ton of cigarette butts though. I need to say something to the builder about the smoking. I do not want them smoking in the house anymore.
