Baby shower favor ideas

We made it through another Christmas. It's time for me to look forward to the next project . . .

My son and DIL are expecting my first grandchild in June and I'm planning a baby shower for the beginning of May.

Any cute ideas? Pictures would be wonderful!

We did this for my SIL. You take 2 lifesavers and a jelly bean. Laying one lifesaver flat, glue the other lifesaver on top to form a handle. Next, glue the jelly bean inside the lifesaver that was lying flat and you have a pacifier. Loop blue or pink ribbon through the handle for a necklace.

Another one is, with small triangles of white felt, make a diaper and pin with a small gold safety pin. In one diaper, you melt an m&m. Whoever gets the one with the m&m wins a prize.

besides the old standby of diaper cakes, do a google search for a diaper wreath and daddy tool belt. there were discussions on directions for these a while ago on the hgtv craft forums

I've done a "passy" similar to the above mentioned one. You used wintergreen life savers, white almond bark melted (this was your glue) and gum drops. You put the almond bark on the bottom of the gum drop and then "glued" it to a standing life saver. This made the handle. I don't think I've got any pics but I'll look.

These baby shoes made from styrofoam cups are really cute. We put nuts and mints in them.

    Diane,
If you email me your snail mail, I can send you a party pack envelope that I made up for a couple of baby showers. I think you'll like it...have a few left over from the last shower.

For one shower, I used those little golf pencils which I included in the envelope for the game sheets. At another showers, one of the gals made up the flower pens, tied with pink ribbon with writing on it and had them all in an ivy bowl and it looked wonderful. Even I was wondering if the flowers were real.

well, I have some ideas if the new mom has a sense of humor. Target now has the jiffy pop popcorn for 2/$1 in the one spot...you could get that, and create a circle template and write, Sally's Ready to Pop! and the date of hte shower w/ a cute graphic.

Or, you could buy a box of jiffy muffin mix, the ones that are 3/$1, and create a label that says Sally's got a bun in the oven.

My daughter will be setting up a crafts table and will be selling the diaper cakes as well as the wreaths next year. We've already made a few of the flower pot pens for the centerpieces, as well as for baby shower prizes. I'll be crocheting lots of baby items for her table including little pincushion booties. Today, I came across an adorable baby carriage pinata that I will be making to use as a shower centerpiece, and the mom can save it for baby's first birthday. Don't worry, it won't be the dangerous kind, it will have a trap door with pull ribbons at the bottom. We have lots more ideas, but my brain's frozen at the time.

Could someone please give me the instructions for making the styro cup bootie? cgn53@verizon.net thanks

Found this Jade, hope it helps.

    Dixie Cup Booties

one dixie cup, or styrofoam cup - for each bootie you want to make
    decorative cutting scissors (optional)
    ribbon or lace
    hole puncher
    clear fingernail polish
    acrylic sparkle glaze or varnish

Cut an inch or so off the top of the cup using decorative scissors or with a regular pair of scissors cut with a rolling motion. Starting at the top of the cup cut a slit down towards the bottom stopping about 1" from the bottom of the cup. Make another slit the same way about 1 1/2" from the first. The little section between the two slits is the tongue of the bootie. Push the tongue back towards the center and bring the flaps over the tongue. Punch holes down both sides going through both layers. Place some clear nail polish inside the holes and let dry. (This helps keep them from ripping apart when the ribbon is tied.) Paint your booties with sparkle glaze and let dry. Then run ribbon through the holes just as you would a shoe and tie. Now you can fill your shoes with mints, candy, or nuts. So cute!

Jade - just saw your post. We just cut off the top of the cups, then cut a slit from the top down a bit and folded in the sides to overlap - hot glued them and then hot glued on a bow (easier than punching holes and tying and looked just as cute IMHO). They were really easy and looked so cute on he tables.

Hi, ladies, I'm back with another question since you were all so helpful with my original request.

While looking around the internet, I came across the most amazing little things--babies climbing candy sticks. The babies are made of icing.

Here's an ebay auction for you to get an idea of just how adorable these are:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5653022867&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Does anyone have an idea how to make them?

I found where they also sell ones for weddings,
    http://store.yahoo.com/advantagebridal/wedcanclim.html,
but can't find any instructions on making them anywhere. The
closest thing I found was this. It's definately not what you
are looking for, but they are so cute that I couldn't resist posting the link.
