Mother-in-law plants. In my DH's office reception area there was this huge row of those plants, perfect condition, and I kept looking for a window to make them grow. lol. They did great with fluorescent lighting. They're succulents so they need watering maybe once a week. Once the "leaves" start to feel soft is when they need watering.

Snake plants are good too.

Spaths (peace lily) are good too, though they need water usually 2x per week....

Corn Plant (Dracaena Masangeana). Most local nurseries have small/medium versions. They can order larger ones with 5 stalks. We used to have a 9 ft one in our vaulted family room and it still looked great after 8 years... I hated leaving it behind when we were relocated overseas for a few years and sold the house.

ZZ plants do great with little water or light.

terriks, I have one of those! Didn't know what it was. The link said it was slow growing, but mine has grown quite a bit and really does well in low light.

Just thought of another good indoor plant ... Pothos.

If they aren't going to have a maintenance service, don't buy any, don't waste your money. I work in a high rise office building and a plant maintenance service is key.

I'm assuming your son is going to maintain the plants? Especially cleaning the leaves. Withering, dusty plants don't make a good impression.

I would rather see a nice large piece of art that is attractively lit.
