Insignia is made in china, I wouldnt recommend it. They and several of the other chinese brands are hit/miss on the quality level. I would recommend Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, or Panasonic. I have linked a panasonic on ebay (I bought the same one from this seller) that is a pretty good deal, orignal MSRP was $599. The screen is 5" but very clear and bright, I use mine on travel all the time.

I'm looking for one, also. Considering a Mintek from Sears for $150, but looking to see what else is available. This is just for long trips with the children, so I'm definitely not willing to spend more than $225.

Mintek is a cheaper Chinese brand, hit or miss quality. My FIL has a mintek works okay but has a super annoying high pitch whistle in the headphone output.

Thanks. The Toshiba is priced right, but a similar model was at the bottom of the ratings in Consumer Reports. I'm thinking that by purchasing from Sears - and maybe even going for the extra warranty - I'll be able to ensure I have a quality unit for a year or two and if it breaks while traveling I can always find a Sears store.

We've had a 9" Toshiba for almost two years now. We use it on road trips and have logged lots of miles on in it travelling to visit various family members or heading to the beach for vacation. We have two young boys (5 and 2) and it has worked flawlessly.

If the weather turns ugly, we will also use it at the cabin we are staying at to keep everyone entertained.
