I don't know how you will possibly get away with one pair of shoes for both activities. Try Ecco pumps or another comfortable brand for the wedding and take the most comfortable walking shoes you have for walking around New York City.

The other day I was reading the New York Times and there was a comment about tourists who come to NYC looking under-dressed in their sneakers, so I think I may leave my running shoes at home and get some decent-looking walking shoes, maybe some clarks un.glare maryjanes?

Hi, I pretty much live in my fitflops but love the comfort of Helle shoes from Spain. These silver sandles probably won't do ya for october but are the most comfortable sandles I have ever owned in my life (those three bands on each side are stretchy) the wedge is around 2" so you get a little height but still easy walking. Very cool with jeans too! Other than that my other fav for comfort is Mephisto from Italy. These are pricey but will last you your whole life. Zappos.com has some great sales on both these brands right now.

I think a whole lot depends on what you plan to wear to the wedding. My dressy uniform always involves black pants, usually Eileen Fisher. If you wear black pants with a great top or jacket, you can get away with something functional/comfortable on your feet, IMO.

I have some dressy-ish sandals from Aravon, which is a division of New Balance. Also just bought some incredibly comfortable clogs from Softwalk. Not too dressy, though. I also have some patent alligator loafers I wear when I dress up. I suggest you place a big order with Zappo's, try everything on and send back whatever doesn't work.

My feet are wicked wide (at least I think that's what the WW stands for) and my options are limited. For better or worse, you will probably have more choices. Zappo's is your friend!
