Filling Gaps Around Stone Fireplace

My wood flooring installation is completed however I have a very large stone fireplace which has irregular edges. My flooring man cut the flooring in as good as possible but there remains a gap between the edge of the flooring and the stone surface. We tried wood filler but it is not an option as it gets smeared on the stone and looks terrible. My flooring man suggested grout but I am concered about placing wet grout against the edge of the wood. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to solve this problem? Is caulk a reasonable option?
