New to this forum .. (migrated from other forums ..)

We want to remove the carpet from our family room (200 sq ft) and replace it with hardwood floor. We think that we can tackle the job ourselves over the summer.

I pulled the carpet back from one corner and here is how it looks.

Seems like some tile over concrete. What do you think? How to figure out what I have?

So I think floating an engineered hardwood/bamboo floor is the only option we have. How do we prep a floor like this? (the tiles are not too close .. also not sure if the floor is level. The carpet seems level)

Also lumber liquidators seem to have a clearance event going on .. I am thinking of going there and checking their selection of engineered wood floors .. they seem to have too many complaints on resellerratings though :(
