Guardsman furniture protection additional $200

Thanks for your input in adavance. I am ready to take delivery of a upholstered sectional from pennsyvannia house ($3000). The local retailer wants an additional $200 to treat it with Guardsman fabric protection. (5 year warranty against stains) Is this worth it?!!! Don't you think when one is paying this amount of money and with a reputible company like pennyslvannia house the fabric should be pretreated? What are the other options for fabric protection out there?

Guardsman's fabricoate is a nice program due to it's warranty.
Their warranty typically covers not just staining but rips cuts tears, dog piddles on sofa etc.
It depends on what your retailer is offering for their warranty program because guardsman has many different types. It depends on the retailer also. What I described above is what my local retailer offers. ($79 for a sofa)

The price is also relative to how many pieces are being treated. If this is a 3 piece sectional I would say it's about right. a two piece sectional I think it's a little overpriced.

Penn House as well as any Upholsterer buys their fabrics from mills like the curtain companies, clothing companies and everyone else. Typically Upholstry Mfgs. only warranty the fabric for a year because they do not mfg.it.

Also guardsman's Fabricoate may void the Manufacturers warranty on fabric only. But that warranty should be covered by Fabricoate if you purchase the program.

So what are you getting? (how many pieces)

Thanks mactruck. It's a two piece sofa. I wanted a three but my living room is too small for the seperate corner as the third piece. I guess I was grumbling because another wise post asked for the price of the fabric protection be included in the price of the sofa. I wish I had thought of that.
Can I apply a fabric protector myself?

The real benefit of the plan is the Warranty - Not the spray. You can spray it yourself with another type of fabric protector. But you won't get the warranty with it.

Look at the program like an insurance plan. If you spill on it, someone else will fix it.

Thats the reason for the price.

Most Retail stores do not include the Protection plan in their price. It is an Add-on.

Thanks mactruck. I went ahead an ordered it. You're right, it's an insurance policy and with 4 boys I probably should have bought stock in the company.
Now, LOL the carpet cleaner wants another $60 to scotch guard a one year old carpet. It was suppose to be a high grade of carpeting with the fibers pretreated in the factory; but that didn't stop stains from a spy kit some evil relative bought the boys and a stomach flu accident. In the pass I think the scotch guard actually attacted more dirt to the carpet.
    Thanks again for your input.
