I don't know who made the "best", but I know Ethan Allen of old was solid built and made to last. Furiture I grew up with 30 years ago is still rock stolid after surviving a family of 6 and then being passed to different family members and finally into the basement. I think one chair had a cracked seat out of an entire dining set. The entire dining set, coffee and end tables are solid, real wood like you hardly ever see anymore. Too bad they are so out of style.

Kittinger furniture. They supplied a lot of the stuff you see in White House photos (conference tables, chairs, Pres. desk, etc)

I am listing a resale site below. Google the history and you will see exactly what dates were premier. The fellow who owns the company now is a former employee, and they do very nice work. We recently purchased a new desk and I think it is almost as nice as the one I have that is forty years old.

Good question. We have some Baker pieces that are more than 30 years old and look as good as the day we bought them. And we have moved many times. All the pieces we have are wood...can't vouch for their sofas etc.

John Widdicomb is now owned by Stickley but the rep told me that Widdicomb is sold to higher end market than Stickley. I have had a difficult time finding an outlet for John Widdicomb or Stickley.

And 40 years ago Thomasville was very very nice...not sure what's happened since than...biut it's not been good! LOL!
