Box Spring question

Hello...

Here's my dilemma, and question.

My son has my hand me down queen mattress and box spring.

I want to get him a new comfortable mattress since this hand me down was never great quality. Can you re-use the same box spring, or should you always buy both mattress and box spring together?

Dilemma...my stairwell is very narrow. 5 years ago to get the box spring up the stairs to begin with when I moved in, we had to completely disassemble it, and rebuild it once it was in my room. I have since moved on to a king, but I got the two twin size mattress/box springs you put toether in a king frame that make a king. That worked fine.

Now that I want to get my son a more comfortable bed, his frame is Queen, I'm not sure the best way to go about this. Ideally I'd keep the box spring and get him a nice new mattress, but maybe that is not something I'd want to do.

I have no desire to tear apart another queen box spring to get it up to the bedroom if I bought new. The only other option I can think of would then be to buy a new frame and downsize him to a full or upgrade him to the kind of king I have, but I'd prefer not to.

Any suggestions...advice?

Thanks....Mindy
