We are finishing the third floor/attic of our 80 year old urban rowhouse as a master bedroom suite. It will be modern in design with entirely new floors, which we would like to be a light-colored bamboo. The second floor of our 80 year old house still has its original wood floors, probably oak (not certain about that), stained very dark brown. Our architect has recommended carpeting the stairs (new construction) from the second to third floor as a "buffer" between the two kinds of wood. We would prefer to have bare wood stairs (and we don't have carpet anywhere else in the house, only some area rugs). Any suggestions?
