You can look at Palliser, they are good quality (except for the gliding models, I've had trouble with the glide mechanisms).

Also look at Dutailier Avantglide. These also glide (but can be locked so they don't) and are well under $2000, top comfort and quality. There is a 5% price increase for Dutailier effective Dec 10, so keep that in mind as you're getting quotes..

Thanks! I didn't know the gliders can lock (makes sense - just never occurred to me). Don't think DH would like a glider but I'd probably like one so I'll point that out. There certainly seems to be a broader range of styling to them so he might be able to find one he really likes as long as it locks (plus, he may find he likes the glider once he has it :)

I cannot answer your original question but I highly recommend that you sit in your selections for a long time before you decide. I also was hesitant to pay the price but did end up buying the Ekornes. We sat in chairs for hours! I have a hard time sitting for any length of time and always "squirming around" to get comfortable. I found the right model of Ekornes to fit me and have been extremely satisfied since. I can actually sit through a whole movie and not even move a leg. I was very surprised and the "investment" was worth it in the long run. But then again, YMMV. Good luck in your search.

Clients of mine loved the Ekornes but didn't want to pay the price. They selected these Lane recliners as an alternate. I think they were less than $600 each It's been 5 years and the chairs are still performing very well.
