Hardwood - 3 Attempts - No Floor Yet

We are not having much luck with our hardwood install. About a month ago they began to install a prefinished Mohawk 3 1/4" wide hardwood(oak)in our new home when the installer noticed he was getting too many ends not matching - surfaces were as much as .040 to .050" off. He stopped at that point and told us we should not accept this quality.

He has installed for this dealer for 10 years and has 17 yrs experience installing hardwood. He claims this is only the second time in 10 years he has had this problem with Mohawk. We are dealing with a local flooring dealer that has been really good to work with, thank goodness.

Another batch of Mohawk was ordered. Although we got more laid this time, we again began to notice problem boards as before.

For the third try the dealer supposedly "upgraded" to a higher Mohawk hardwood for the same price. Well you guessed it, it was bad also. In fact we thought it was the worst of the three.

We realize that not all the boards are going to be perfectly level, but the installer and our dealer have told us we should expect a better floor than what we are getting. A Mohawk rep. came out and examined the third floor job and agreed it was not acceptable. They all agree our subfloor is not the problem.

Is this all we are going to get with prefinished hardwood? We chose it because it susposedly has a more durable finish and is more resistant to fading. Also we liked the micro-beveled edges which should help hide seasonal cracks which will probably appear since we usually do not use air conditioning and we heat with wood.

Dealer is now offering us Shaw or Somerset flooring. Sure would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.
