First Day of School pics!

The kids left an hour ago, I have to get going! Spent too much time here. Just snapped a few pics - DH said not to embarrass the kids (DD is a ham, she's not embarrassed). No tears from either of us (yet).

She looks so tiny

Ds was ahead of her - didn't want his picture taken (DH drove out later and waited with us)

New glasses (her first!) and color-coordinated backpack

Without a backward glance....

I'm picking the kids up at school today - Ds and I have eye dr appts and DD is getting the glasses we ordered (that fit her face - they goofed and ordered a larger frame at first, these will be put away as spares).

How are all you other mommies doing this AM? We'll have to post another thread tonight about how the kids did at their first day (and what we did while they were gone).

What precious photos! Your kids are adorable, and they both look so excited! Your "baby girl" isn't such a baby anymore, right Mom? ;-)

I can hardly believe that my niece started 2nd grade this year. Wasn't it only yesterday that she was a tiny little infant? Where does the time go?

Very cute pics, your kids are so sweet !! what a big novel your ds is carrying.
    Love the backpack, spanking new.........

    enjoy the quiet !!

Cute kids! I'm jealous that they're wearing jackets. Won't see that around here for a couple more months.

Awww!! They're cuties. How'd you do with the tears?

How precious. I remember when Max was totally into the sports attire look. I think it was 3rd through 5th grade. By sixth grade, he was too cool. LOL!

What a cutie your DD is. Love her brand new 'Tinkerbell' BP and those fancy shoes! She looks totally ready!

My mom was a school bus driver for 27 years. She was very loved by 'her' kids. I still have many, many people who used to ride her bus stop to tell me how wonderful she was. I guess she used to bring food to those she thought needed it. Sounds like Mom. I hope your bus driver is just as dedicated.

AWwwwww! How cute! I can't wait to hear what their day was like!

DS just said he had a good day, not too much HW yet. He reads on the bus (had to sit way in back while DD sat right behind the driver).

DD missed me a little, had her stuffed pig with her so brought him out again (all the kids brought them out at show and tell) just b4 I picked her up. But she is eager to ride the bus home tomorrow - just kept saying how tired she was (got up at 6:30), I think tomorrow when she gets home she might take a nap - for the 1st time in 5 years! She was disappointed that she didn't learn to read and write the first day. She said mostly it was just learning where to put their things. She had been worried about making friends, since she didn't go to preschool or library story hour with any kids from our town (too far away). I just kept reminding her that when she was 4 and starting preschool she didn't know anybody either. She said she made a couple of new friends, including one she met when they both had to use the bathroom ("and Mama, we have so much in common!" but she didn't say what - being 5, being nervous, and having to pee LOL?), but she forgot their names. We told her she'd see them again tomorrow, by the end of the week she'd know all their names.

Bus driver seems nice, DS had a different one we loved last year, but they changed routes near the end of the school year. This one seems nice, I really never got to know her. She likes DS b/c he's so quiet, hopes it's not a problem that he will be 1st on and last off so long days. That's what we get for living at the far corner of town. I stopped to talk to her outside DD's school this noon, she's already worried about *next* year when DS's schedule will be an hour off from DD's and she'll have to pick him up *last* to get to Jr High, then run back and pick DD up 1st for 1st grade, same thing coming back home, will have to run straight from high school to our house or house to elementary school.

So how did all the other new kindergartners do?

Oh! I'm in love!! Your kids are soooo cute!!! It's been many years since I had a 1st day. I miss it.

    Great pics-
My kindergartner doesn't start until next week. So we'll see how it goes, she's very excited about starting a new school and her new tinkerbell backpack. Popular choice I see your daughter has one too :)

That's really cute--and smart!--that they had their stuffed friends with them. It's an equalizer and source of comfort, but I'm sure they'll be put up on the shelf while they discover everything school has to offer!

DD insisted on taking the pig again with her today. I don't know whether stuffed animals were only for the first day, first week or ??? since there was no info from teacher beyond "bring a BP, snack, stuffed animal and a smile on the the first day." Since the other 3 things are going to be every day, will the loveys (sp?) be going every day too? I also sent a pencil and crayons just b/c DD wanted to go "back to school shopping" for supplies when DS did, I talked her out of the 3-ring binder ;-)

Here are our first day of school pics. Kindergarten is a long way behind us - my baby girl is off to high school for the first time, and my son is starting grade 6.

My son with his new glasses (also his first pair!)
