Do you like your stacking washer and dryer? What are the pros and cons for those of you who own them?
Comments (1)Hi martinjj. I don't have any personal experience w/stackables but my parents have them in their beach house and I don't recall them mentioning any problems w/them. Have you thought about a washer/dryer combo unit? You might do a little research on them. They would definitely save space and, I think, time. Comments (12)I like them. Had them for almost 5 years, and the only problem was a frozen pipe, but I think that was more to do with the house and lack of insulation and not the washer! Not sure what the capacity is exactly, but I can easily fit 2 sets of queen sheets, or 6 bath towels. Do research - many washers/dryers now are made by only a few manufacturers, and just have different labels. We had the "same" set in our last house, but I think it had a whirlpool label. That could help get a better price on what's basically the same model. One thing: you must be able to leave the washer door open when not in use. They have to air dry or they can start to smell REALLY nasty and the gasket can start to get moldy. If that happens, someone (Tide?) has a front loading washer cleaner that helps....See MoreLaundry/Mudroom - stacked or side-by-side washer/dryer?
Comments (6)Hi Kelly, I ended up stacking them. With that, I got a corner sink and sorting/folding space. Very happy we did this. The sink helps for hand laundry, washing things I don't want in kitchen sink (garden, craft and/or paint tools) and as a butler's pantry sink when we have big parties (prep, not during party). Having said that, bear in mind that appliance sizes change and we were somewhat limited when we had to replace the old w/d. Maybe plan for 3" wider and taller than current appliances? One thing I'm glad I did (maybe stole from this site?) was put in an outlet on the opposite wall at above counter height. Great for the rare occasions I iron things! Here are some pix. Bench starts at right of w/d. Good luck!...See MoreDo you have your washer and dryer stacked?
Comments (25)I have a stacked washer/dryer for space reasons. They are european appliances because the U.S. products are too large for the limited space I have. I literally have them in a hall closet just outside the master bedroom which is a convenient location (the former owner had them in the kitchen! what a bad place to do laundry!). If I had room for side by side I would go with that instead. I do suggest you get a shelf kit if you have the stacking combo. It sits between the two appliances and pulls out to give you a bit of space to pull the clothes out of the dryer without dropping everything on the floor and has enough surface area to sort socks (although not enough to fold towels). I love the laundry room pictures, wish I had space for something that nice....See Morerenov8r
