Hi all, am looking for pix and advice on putting a wine rack in an existing kitchen cabinet, either upper or lower - anyone done that recently? We have wood mode cabinets.

thanks,

A wine rack won't fit in an upper....they are normally only 12" deep and wine bottles are much taller than that. You can set any after-market wine rack inside a lower cabinet though, or in a deep cabinet over the refrig. I bought a pretty ORB one to sit on my counter and it works great.

    here's ours - and it's 12" deep

mairin, yes, but yours is not IN an existing cabinet it is under it. You can't lay most wine bottles down in a 12" deep cabinet and close the door. They are too tall. I think the OP wants to put a wine rack inside an existing cabinet.

thanks all, OP here...never thought of the upper cabinet issue - duh... so glad to have this forum

and yes, would like to add into existing cabinet.

and sorry to continue to be dumb but what is ORB?

ORB is Oil Rubbed Bronze. I got mine from Marhsalls or TJ Max or one of those discount places for cheap and it holds 9 bottles. Check Amazon.com...they have tons of them.

The living space in most homes is too warm for long term storage of wine. Better to set up something in the basement-if you have one-where temps are a little cooler and less prone to fluctuations. I bought a house with a rack as part of the cabinets but I'm taking it out. I don't store my wine in it and it's just one more thing to dust.

I agree with Riverspots--you don't want room temperature wine storage in most living areas, especially a kitchen. You want someplace cool, dark, and undisturbed; wine gets damaged if it's warm, exposed to light, and/or vibrated. Options besides a basement cellar are a closet or small space with a chiller unit or a refrigerated beverage center type unit. If you just want a few bottles & short term storage, then an out of the way lower cabinet, closet floor, or pantry would be better than the kitchen, and doesn't rob precious storage space there.
