I stopped using fabric softener, and use vinegar instead. AMAZING difference. No more dangerous chemicals, no more "greasy" residue on my towels that hinder absorbency. Just softer laundry!

I use vinegar for towels and every fourth regular load or so but I still love the smell of Downey on my clothes.

And even vinegar spilling on any wood cabnets can make a mess so you do need a good liner down.
