Any front load washers that DON'T tie clothes in knots?

I need to choose a washer/dryer for my new home and decided to get front loaders. They will go into a laundry closet just outside my 2nd floor bedroom. I was seriously considering the Bosch Nexxt series until I realized they cannot go under a counter because their control panels are too high. The Axxis seem too small.

My current washer is a Maytag front loader which ties all the clothes in knots. In researching front loaders, it seems that this is a common complaint for most brands, and I'm not having much luck in finding a great all around front loader that won't cost an arm and a leg. I use Consumers Reports to research most purchases, but they can't always cover everything

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Any/all machines will knot things up from time-to-time. It's been a "common complaint" ever since washing machines were invented. You can avoid this by going to the stream and beating each individual item with rocks. Then you can control it.

Never had that trouble with any of our washing machines, even with 8 pairs or so of jeans, in Hotpoint, Miele, AEG, Bosch machines etc...

Then again these are/were all European sized so that could be an influencing factor.

I think any time you have a full load in the large FL then clothes will become tangled. I have this problem with my Siemens FL now and agree it can be quite annoying especially when washing jeans.

As Jon pointed out, smaller FL's do this less. My previous Asko machine rarely if ever tangled the clothing.

The only item my FriGEmore "knots up" is queen-size sheets, and it doesn't do that every time, either. It must be a function of load, though I try to make sure I'm not over-loading. I don't know if the newer Frigidaires share that attribute.

Asolo.....thank you for giving me a huge laugh for today!! I certainly needed it.

This is why I asked the question in another thread about the full size GE front loader. It does not have a tilted drum. the tilted drum in mose FL washers today cause knotting.

FWIW, my Duet has a tilted drum. In my 26 months of use it seems not to tangle things up any more or less than any other machine I've owned or any others that I have experience with. So infrequently that I regard as non-issue. Disappointed to learn it does appear to be an issue for some folks.

Buy a wringer washer from http://lehmans.com

I have a Maytag FL and it's never tied my clothes in knots. I'm very pleased with how it treats my clothes.

My Maytag MAH2400AWW compact FL never ties clothes in knots either! With the companion MDE2400AYW dryer, it makes a nice little stack.

I think how you load your washer has a lot to do with to what extent cloths get tangled. If you toss everything in together in a big pile stuff is more likely to tangle than if you make sure all fasteners are closed and place items in the machine one at a time. The exception is whites. I don't bother to place socks and underwear in one at a time, it would take too long, and they are not likely to tangle. Unless you wear really long socks that is! : )
