Basically it is the equivalent size round that has been ovalized.
It works well in the 6 & 7" sizes, if you need 8" then typically you would use wall stack in the 3-1/4" x 12" or 14" rect depending on length.

its equally sized but the more round or square the lesser friction, and air noise you will get. when you go with oval or wall stack it tends to cause more friction therefore more noise and lesser travel lengths
