well, I'm still not entirely finished or moved in to the kitchen so my dreams of amazing meals are yet to be realized.

First night - I'd planned baked potatoes with steak and veggies. (we haven't had a working oven in years so baked potatoes seemed appropriate.) Turned on the oven and it blew the circuit because the electrician wired it wrong.
So I think we microwaved something.

The NEXT night we had the steak, potatoes and green beans. Nothing fancy - still figuring out where everything is!

The appliances in my kitchen were installed on the 23 of December. The first thing I did was call my grandchildren over to bake Christmas cookies. The next night I made a turkey Christmas Eve dinner for my family and two other families that have been coming to our house every Christmas Eve for years. It was wonderful.

oldalgebra, exactly the same with me!! I made Christmas cookies a couple days before Christmas and the first real meal was a big Christmas dinner for my family.

See? We told you the extra week would go quickly! Congrats!!!!!

My dh wanted home made pasta and meatballs in the worst way. (Had a little withdraw since there was so much grilling going on.)

"With the newly painted white cabinets?" I asked. No way. It took me a couple of weeks to go there.

I can't remember exactly what it was. But here is a picture of the first chicken I rotisseried in the oven:

Oooh, oooh...I can tell you exactly, because it wasn't long ago AND I took photos. I converted to gas from electric so I really wanted to cook something that required me to fire up as many burners as possible. I made blade steaks with mushrooms, baked potatoes, grilled tofu, and sauteed asian greens. I made a big mess and loved every minute of it. Here are the pics:

Beef stew. Mmmm. I wanted to sear stuff, and prep lots, and generally make a big mess too :)

Yum!! Everything looks and sounds delic.. Our closing was postponed YET AGAIN! We are hoping we can still move in on Wed. but with gymnastics and ice skating and the move, we may end up waiting until Fri. night to cook.. I think I can wait that long.. I think i can i think i can!!!

Gillylily--did you ever move in? What did you cook?

I totally forgot about this thread. We did move in. The first night we didn't have a chance to go food shopping but had egg white, turkey bacon and cheese left in our apt. fridge.. So.. sadly our first meal was eggs with turkey bacon and cheese.. So on my very first night the house wreaked of bacon.. My REAL first meal was shrimp tagliatelle with broccoli! yUM!!!

I cooked steak under the broiler with baked potatoes and broccoli. It was my 9 year old daughter's request as we couldn't cook a steak in the 2 months since we started the renovation and she loves steak!

Beef stronganoff! I'm with donka...I wanted to be able to have three pots going at once (new gas range with five burners! Whoopppppeeeeee!)and be able to make a mess. Pasta, red wine, sour cream, mushrooms, beef stock, onions, garlic.....it was heaven.

The first thing I want to cook in my new kitchen is Popovers

Alton Brown made them one night on his show and it amazed me how something so simple and runny could come out so beautiful...LOL

So the next night I went to Williams-Sonoma and bought a popover pan. It is the only thing in my cabinet so far.

I'll be sure to take pictures and maybe hang it on the wall like they hang the first dollar in a new business.

My kitchen is still very much a work in progress - but I have my new ovens installed and this is the first thing I baked.

DH made pizza the other night and that sure turned out well. Finally a pizza with a nicely done crust.

I can't remember the first thing we cooked in this kitchen but this thread is making me smile as I remember our first kitchen remodel. My brother, who was visiting from South Dakata, looked on in disbelief, as I fired up our new DCS range for the first time to make the girls a fresh batch of playdoh. Food was just not a priority for my three year old twins!

Macaroni and meatballs... that's what we all want here. It's been exactly one month since we started our demo/reno and I think we'll be done by Saturday so Sunday dinner will be my our first in the new kitchen. I can't wait to fry meatballs and smell a sauce cooking! I'll probably make a pie for dessert so I can use the oven, too.

Wow, altagirl, that's a fast demo/reno! We started the same day you did, but we have at least three more weeks to go--lots of delays due to lost of snow. :-(

Man, I have been fantasizing about cooking in our kitchen since... OCTOBER! We've been living with a mini-fridge and microwave (does microwaving leftovers count??) while our kitchen renovation drags on month after month. This thread is making my mouth water!!

I'm not even sure I will remember how to cook once our kitchen is finished!

beejay27, we have been really lucky up here in the boston area. we've dodged a bunch of snow storms, just lots of rain but that hasn't affected my kitchen. your kitchen will be done soon... spring is around the corner :)
