OT: So, what's cooking in those good looking kitchens?

Since we've started the reno process, I find myself daydreaming about my new kitchen whenever I'm cooking in my kitchen. I picture myself with loads of room, no crumbs when I slice the crusty bread hot from the oven, and a dishwasher that unloads itself. ha!

Anyway, just a long way to say, what's for dinner? :D

Here: lightly breaded and sauteed thin chicken cutlets with a lemon/butter/wine/artichoke sauce; homemade rosemary gruyere bread; salad.

I am in my current (not great looking/functioning kitchen) - hubby is working - and kids are begging for.........frozen pizza???? Ick. I will likely do it. I save my cooking for nights when hubby is home as he is about the only one that appreciates it and I'd rather have him eat it fresh and not reheated if I am going to put effort into it!

    Your dinner sounds wonderful!

We had our first "real" dinner party (i.e. not with just extended family) last weekend, and I made cassoulet, sauteed green beans, bread, pear chopped salad with blue cheese, and French apple tart. We're having LEFTOVERS tonight!

Well, we're headed out in a couple of days, Kitten, so I'm emptying the refrigerator. Spaghetti tonight with an unusually broad range of veggies sliced into the sauce, some bits of pancetta, last of the queso asadero and sharp cheddar melted on top. Yeah, the honeymoon was over a couple years ago. :) The sauce'll be "homemade," though, if canned tomatoes count. Hopefully I can use up the last of the ketchup as a replacement for tomato paste.

Happy fantasizing. My kitchen is still a pleasure to work in even if I will have to wipe up sauce spatters.

I had a cruddy day at work. Do you think rice krispies go better with white wine, or red?

A White Russian over Cheerios instead of plain milk or just the alcohol. A LOOOONG frustrating day with contractors, missing or damaged parts, and the project at a seeming standstill. And then there was the conference call with corporate to discuss all of the "progress". Ouch.

I do still have some leftover chicken and andouille gumbo from Sunday, but I don't have any good alcohol additions that I could make to that.

Anyone had chocolate wine? I received a bottle for a birthday gift but haven't broke it open yet. I hear it's best on ice but frankly I'm too cold to drink an iced beverage...

localeater - fresh batch of rice crispy treats here today - to go with that lovely pizza. Batting 100 over here tonight.

I'll play! We are having smothered steak with onion and mushrooms, potatoes au gratin and sauteed zucchini! Yesterday was baking day and had a great time making brioche bread pudding, banana chocolate chip muffins and blueberry muffins for the kids' breakfasts this week!

I don't "cook" either when it's just the kids. Too much effort only to hear gagging sounds when it's served! Still, that oven with the "frozen pizza" and "chicken nuggets" buttons are a total turn off.

Last night we had ritz crackers with peanut butter and jelly on them. Well, the kids did. I had a costco size bag of sweet potato chips.

That whole cassoulet dinner looks amazing!

@fouramblues -- what time should I be there for leftovers? Looks divine! :)

Ham steak out of the freezer (Costco), lovely Japanese sweet potatoes from the Farmers' Market, and broccoli. Yum! Girl Scout cookies for dessert.

Fouramblues, let me know the next time you're having a dinner party...I'll be there! Clary, I'm coming to your house for fresh baked goods.

Leftovers here tonight. Last night was comfort food - roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, and sauted green beans. I had bought the roast a while ago to have when the midshipman we sponsor and his friends might be around for dinner - 5 lbs is too much for our family. However, he has a girlfriend now so we rarely see him and we decided to make the roast. A ton of leftover meat, so tonight I made beef quesadillas for the kids but dh and I are having a large salad along with some of the leftover meat.

I still cook for my kids when dh isn't around, but I typically do easier meals like homemade mac and cheese or breakfast for dinner. Quesadillas are one of my "go to" meals for the kids - quick and easy on my griddle, served with a side of black beans and corn, and sliced avocado. I pretty much always have those ingredients on hand. I save the frozen pizzas for lunches when they have a gaggle of friends over and I don't want to be a short order cook for lunch. :)

    I went out to eat...seafood...on someone else's dollar :)

I love chocolate wine. Northern VA makes a couple of really good ones.

After I got home from work I baked ciabatta and then started a pork loin on the rotisserie. Pared with mashed potatoes and cooked carrots.

The pork will serve double duty - supper tonight and I'll slice the remainder for sandwiches for the kid's lunches this week.

Vegetarian Shepards pie.....lentils, veggies, topped w garlic smashed potatoes and mushroom gravy. Very comforting.

Well, you know we don't normally eat like that! Fun when we do, though.

fourkids, our favorite thing to make with leftover roast beef is Saveur's roast beef hash recipe. So easy and delicious, especially with a fried egg on top. I'll have to try RB quesadillas - yum!

Not so much cooking, but trying to dry the last of the smoked venison snack sticks.

Not my usual Monday dinner, I always have seafood Friday & Saturday...
oven roasted porgy with linguine & clams(too full to eat the salad--that's a first :)

My DD was begging for some sushi so we made up a bunch of California Rolls. Was also hoping to cook up some kale but that didn't happen.

Mrsmortar - the snack sticks look great! When I was up in Alaska I had some made with reindeer. Delicious :)

fouramblues, can you please share the cassoulet recipe? that looks sooo delicious!!

Wow. We had sashimi and sushi rice yesterday and actually couldn't finish the fish so I was nervous to eat it raw today and instead turned it into a, whachacall it, frittata of sorts -- caramelized some onions and then cooked the fish a little bit in it and added egg and baked it. It was actually good, to my surprise. I was unsure at first, but it was well-dispatched. As was the pasta-meatballs combo I actually got it together to make this afternoon. Usually I start dinner at 8pm. There's a notable absence of anything raw on this menu but I did shut off the sauce immediately upon adding the kale so it's almost raw.... the salad just didn't get made today.

I want to be a guest in all of your's houses. Yumeee

Yesterday I made 4 lasagnas for our Super Bowl party and also made a Provencal soup from Dorie Greenspan's book for us, and today we had Alaskan salmon and salad with lots of veggies for dinner. Last week I made 8 dozen cookies for SB party....
