I Need Help Selecting a Bathroom Mirror (pic heavy)

12 years ago

I have these posted on the bathroom forum but May_flowers suggested I ask over here for style help. I have images of drawn elevations of the room. I will also show real pics of the room so you can get a feel for the dimensions of the room from an angle. The drawings are all to scale. The elevation is a wall 9.5' wide x 7' high. The room is 6.5' wide. So not real big. Everything in the room is new.

Elements:
1) Chrome fixtures for plumbing and lighting
2) Soapstone sink and counters (that I fabricated)
3) BM wall paint Bunny Gray, a very soft and light bluish gray.
4) BM Thundercloud Gray, (a shade darker than the Bunny Gray) sink stand.
5) BM Distant Gray (white that looks like BM super white) on all woodwork and other cabinets.
6) Floor, black slate with light med gray grout.
7) Walls, wainscot to 49"; white field 4x4; listello - carrara mixed colors of white, blues, tans; white ceramic baseboard and crown.
8) White kohler cast iron tub, Bellwether, simple modern lines.
9. Casework, new but has the look simple early 20th century.

Sink without oil:

Beautiful framing material. It has some rubbed in bluish color that is slightly visible and really looks good with the wall color and listello. This example is of the 2.25" wide frame. The other frame I included in drawings below is 1.5" and doesn't show off the nice patina that is on the piece. I really like the wider frame for that reason but don't know if it goes well:

Now the drawings with mirror options. You will notice the options are not all here. Some I have ruled out and thought I'd just link the threads to this post that include all the options. This post is getting picture heavy:

Option 1, to scale, with Hubbardton Forge Mirror. The top of the drawing is the ceiling height at 7':

Option 2 frameless oval:
{{gwi:1387185}}

Option 4 frameless round:

Option 6 with wide frame and wide dimensions between the sconces:
{{gwi:1548193}}

Option 6, live mockup. These scones may just have to go, and be replaced with something scaled down and more economical in design:

Option 7 with narrow frame and wide diemensions between the scones:
{{gwi:1548196}}

Option 8 rectangle with wide frame and narrow dimension between the scones:
{{gwi:1548198}}

Option 9 rectangle with narrow frame and narrow dimension between the scones:
{{gwi:1548201}}

I have linked my last Bathroom forum thread and within that thread is the link to the first posing about mirrors I made earlier this week.

    Out of these, I like the frameless oval the best.

    What is the wood on the vanity?

    Hard with a line drawing. I like #1 best followed by #9. I like grounding the mirror with a frame and its pairing with what looks like will be stained vanity wood though they wouldn't have to be the same material. I like the mirror not too light or heavy. Seems to balance well with the vanity. Then again, if you're oiling the sink that will be a heavy element.

    I love those sconces and glass shades, but they are really large, as you say. I was shocked when I saw them in person. They extend so much too.

    Natebear and snookums2 thanks to you both for commenting. I like the oval and that was always going to be the mirror, the one with the frame #1. Then I found that frame material and it looks lovely with my paint choices and the marble. The vanity will be painted a semi sheen light med gray. The walls are a light gray. Both will have blue undertones that really pick up the hints of blue in the finish on the frame.

    The sconces may have to go. I really like them but they are bigger than I thought they would look. I bought them online. The vanity will take up some of the depth to help offset the size of the sconces I think.

    The location of the sconces are set, but the style may have to change.

    The #s1 and 2 seem safe to me. #8 I am liking now, but it changes moment by moment! HElp!

    I will not commit to the mirror until the vanity is in in a week or 2. But I want to get some input with what I am thinking, and you guys always come through with great feedback.

    You're right. Maybe #8 is better than #9, thinking about the oiled sink. That's the framing material posted above? Really pretty. Could be heavy but hard to say. I think you'll know when the rest of the space is together.

    Beautiful bathroom.

    I think I'm changing my vote to #8. Is it a more traditional shape for this style than the oval would be?

    #9, seems to fit with the style of "furniture" and it has a slimmer look, giving your area (the look) of more "height". Go up when you can't go out.

    If the thick frame you love doesn't work for the mirror, how about framing some art with it for another wall?

    #1 frame looks to me as if it were custom made for your bathroom which, by the way, is going to be absolutely gorgeous. All your choices so far have been spectacular so go with what YOU like.
