All Those UFOs (Unfinished Operations)

My dh has RA and has been having a very hard time with his medications and such so honey do's have been pretty much put off since August. I found out last week that he will be traveling for work next week and my parents along with my dear uncle has agreed to come while he's away and complete all those incomplete projects that he hasn't been able to complete. My mom told me to make a list for them.

List Thus Far

Replace plug in's in backsplash area.

Paint Trim in LR.

Install Trim in Main Bath.

Install Crown Molding in Master Bedroom.

Take Buffet to Agency.

"Spring" Clean Garage.

Install Light over Kitchen sink.

Check DW for why top rack doesn't clean. Repairman been there says nothing wrong.

Install carpet on stairs to basement.

and the list goes on.

Do you have a written list of all your UFOs?

I feel silly that my list is so long.

Alicia

Your list sounds much like ours, and we don't have any major illnesses to prevent work being done. Just life stuff.
But how lovely of your family to help our you and your DH. I have an aquaintance with RA and I know how debilitating it can be. Hope your DH medication problems get squared away.

Ouch! What a subject! I cant even "honey do" anymore, "Honey wonÂt" until I finish the 15 or more left undone since our foyer reno in 07. Seriously, good luck with the health issues. Hope it resolves in a positive way. ItÂs good to have your parents to help out for this. Maybe you all can make it into a fun day working together.

I have a 5x7 notebook in the kitchen where I put the to-do list, most of it mine because no one else can do it. DH is an engineer, he has to see a task that has a clear solution. If thereÂs not something like "need nut A to go with bolt B", or "pick this up and move it here", he canÂt do it. And forget colors. Everything in the house would be white semi-gloss. I feel like I add more to that book than I cross off each day. Everything I start leads to something else or uncovers some kettle of worms that has to be dealt with too.

You DID want commiseration, right? You have it. Sincerely. Now give me some.
    Long list! HahahahahahahahahahÂÂÂ..sigh.

Paint the nailholes filled with putty in the bathroom moldingÂ.left undone since July 08.

Paint the nailholes filled with putty in the kitchen moldingÂ.left undone since Sept 08.

Decide (finally) on a kitchen trim colorÂleft undone since spring 06.

Finish spackling those weird divots left on the kitchen wall near the baseboard, and put the trim back. I wonÂt say how long thatÂs been undone, as a matter of fact I wonÂt admit anymore how far in arrears any of this stuff is.

Finish cleaning the gorgeous brass antique looking mirror I left in the basement too long which has weird spotty green growths of corrosion on it. I spent 7 hours of Saturday on this. And itÂs still not done. ItÂs evil demonic corrosion that keeps coming back. Revenge of the neglected mirror. I expect any moment to see Dorian Grey staring back at me.

    Do bathroom Craftsman style stencil.

Find some special magnet catch to hold craftsman mirror door shut. Regular ones wonÂt fit. Have already spent too many hours hunting for a solution. Nail it closed?

Put stained trim around huge wall mirror on bathroom.

Figure out a molding transition between kitchen and tunnel to dining room.

Paint the dining room and install chair rail molding and door trim. Figure out how to cover a 7" wide border that goes around all the doors with molding.

Repair the bobbin lace curtains which yellowed and I washed, now have minute tears.

Iron the sheers which wrinkled when I washed them.

Finish rearranging the lamps for dining room and living room and return the new shades I bought that didnÂt go after all.

Find/Buy pull rods for family room drapes since pull cords broke and pulling them by hand has unhooked half the hooks

Nail together the wood trivet frames (using leftover mosaic tile from the 06 kitchen backsplash install) now varnished and waiting in the basement. Grout them.

Clean dirt and dried food from "new" DR set bought off CraigÂs list. Wax. Enjoy. Drink wine at new table. Don't spill any.

Find a place for table linens displaced by sale of old buffet which had more drawers (6) than new one (2). Have no clue. No clue.

Find a place for pottery/art objects displaced by moving bookcase out of said dining room to make room for "new" CL dining room set. Said objects residing in bins on my bedroom floor where I can stub my toe on them every night while getting up to go to the bathroom. That way I canÂt forget I still need to do this. Useful reminder system. ItÂs system, I tell you.

Find a place for sewing supplies displaced by sale of old DR buffet, currently residing in stacked bins on my home office chair, where I have to move them everytime I need to do work. I can ignore these for a while. IÂm too tired to work. Forget money.

Transform former guest room to a cozy new "library" . Have to get all the books and junk off the floor first and remove wallpaper. Ugh.

I could write more but IÂve made myself too tired. Will go get some coffee and see if I can get one thing crossed off today.

    linnea Thank You lol!!!

I was NOT going to write my list - far too exhausting - but I feel much better after seeing yours! Not that mine is any shorter, but it's definitely similar, so if I may give you a hug of commiseration! ((((linnea)))

& now I'm off to work feeling much better about leaving all my UFO's at home ;-D

I've never posted a pic on here b/c i have so many UFO's and I am embarrassed.
But we have had some progress and every weekend another piece of molding makes it up in the kitchen. My list is so long, I won't even write it out-LOL

Well, lemme put it this way... my UFOs list is something like 9-10 screens long in Microsoft Word. In 10 point font. DH was lovely about putting in a full day getting a few very useful things done as a present for me last weekend - he put up some blinds and curtain rods, coat hooks and shelves - but that is the only progress that has been made on anything in months, between my rotten health, DH's rather insane schedule and our budget. (I had planned on giving my mum a cute sweater I got at a thrift store, new with tags, for her birthday but instead bought her a tank of heating oil because state LIHEAP funding has been delayed. Ouch.) I don't think this house is going to be presentable inside for years, so no one hold their breath on pictures... :-)

I'm with polly. I've never posted pics because my list of UFO's is just ridiculous. Projects get to the 92-95% done line and never actually make it to 100%. DS1's bedroom was redone(extensive handpainting, etc.) as a birthday present in '07 and the hardware is still not on the built-in drawers in his bed. Tiled the foyer and front hall closet years ago and the baseboard never went back on in the closet. LOL on the not painted over puttied holes. We have them here too. I keep saying over on kitchens that I will post pics when I hit 92% completion, because I know that last 8% might take years to finish. Maybe when the kids hit college, all those little projects will get done.DS2 starts pre-k next year so it'll be a bit of a wait.
