I presume you are speaking of a pull-down attic stairs. The really only pratical way if you are using track lights is to install a track on either end of the door. The lights can be directed toward art hanging on the walls where the steps pull down. This would require wiring each track seperatly.

thanks! I didn't think I could do that, but I would love it, because that is exactly what I want to do is light the artwork like a gallery.

have you seen pictures of this? does it look too bulky? maybe i need to focus on smaller track systems that will blend into the pull-down stairs.

Sorry for the tardy answer. Tracks usually come in 8ft lengths but they can be cut shorter. Each track is hot and must be controlled by switches. There is a variety of sizes and styles of lights available. Suggest you visitsome lighting stores. Two available in my area of Texas are Lamps Plus and Lights Fantastic. Both are chains so they may be in your area.

my electrician didn't even know that the tracks could be cut down, so your suggestion is really helpful! i looked at lamps plus after talking with my electrician, but didn't see anything small enough for that area that i liked.

will head back to lamps plus armed with new knowledge.
