Sharing pictures of kitchen & living room accessories

I posted the kitchen pictures over at the Kitchen forum, so I'll only post one of them.... but I wanted to post pictures of my endtable & entry table that I bought unfinished and finished myself. I used milk paint, which seemed to the be the perfect paint for my job. I then sanded the edges and used walnut stain over them. I have put a clear coat on them yet, but will soon. I bought the two pieces pictured below and another smaller endtable for $150.00, since the store was going out of business. The would have reguarly been $300 for all three.

The accessories on the entry table are all from "Fred's". They were a quick buy since I had people coming to the house and needed some stuff. I'm not married to them, but they are okay for now. I really do like the candle holders (which you can't see real well) and the lamp is okay, but I read in the chair beside it and it really isn't bright enough. I have a clip on light I use when I read, which is fine for now.

Enjoy ...... and I'll love suggestions if you think of something or see something I need to change. (BTW, I'm getting a cornice board over my windows, Dad just hasn't started it yet)

Kitchen - only thing that remained was the cabinets ... everything else is new! If you want specfics, let me know!

Christy, the tables and everything else look great!

Did you try swapping your two lamps? The floor lamp might work better for reading.

I thought about it. That floor lamp is from the old set, just a temporary fix, but DH likes the idea of a floor lamp there because the end table is so small. But I'm not really thinking of putting anything else on that table beside the couch, so I could try swapping them. Do you think the buffet lamp would be too tall beside the couch?

As you can tell, we are really simplistic. I think because the rooms are small and the couch/chair are so large, if we add much more it would feel too cluttered. There will be a recliner where the X-mas tree is now for DH with the other small table. I would like a large hutch on dining room wall behind my table. So the recliner and hutch are the only "large" items pending. Everything else will be accessories.

    Dining room wall:

This wall now has two "rooster" prints on them and a small scroll shelf, but they can be moved.

    Any ideas for table decoration?

We're doing a complete kitchen gut-and-remodel in early summer.

In the interim; the dark, drab, lifeless kitchen is sucking out my soul. So...I'm removing drawer fronts and doors and painting them with abandon. Since all the cabinets will be replaced, I'm not holding back on any colors that I like. I'm trying out new hardware, too.

Here's the first bank of drawer fronts I've completed. The colors are brighter than they appear in these photos. I've used Spiced Butternut, Lilac Vapor, Magenta, and Green Grapes on this set. It took eight coats of paint to get the Magenta to look deep and rich. I may go redo the Lilac Vapor in something just a bit darker.

I'm painting the two doors and false drawer fronts under the sink next. They'll be "checkered." The drawer fronts will be yellow (on right)and green, the doors under them will be green (on right) and yellow.

I am so sorry I posted out of line! I read the title as in invitation to "share" pictures; not that you were sharing your pictures.

I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I was excitied to show off my painting project and didn't thoroughly read your post first.

I absolutly love the tables you painted.

I love those tables! And your kitchen, too, of course. Is milk paint a product of General Finishes? They look great.

    Cburch,
I love the milk paint you did to the tables. I have never used that....would like to.

I love your farm table and woven chairs - they are great.

Good job on your kitchen and den.

I like the suggestion to switch the lamps and see how that works without spending more $$ on lamps - that might work.

    Smiles:)

Not sure about the milk paint. I'll have to look at the can at home tonight. I bought it from the unfinished furniture and it was the only thing they recommended using. Its not like latex, more like acrylic plaint. I did put about 3 good coats on them. The first coat was more like a stain, but it covered better with each coat. It wasn't real easy to sand off the edges to create the distressing, but DD and I did it, using sandpaper and steel wool. I finished these two tables in about three nights. The sanding was very messy! My thinking is on the 9 drawer table, I'm going to start replacing the knobs with antique knobs whenever I find them (different kinds - but hopefully mostly glass knobs). What do you think?
