Can you guess what the bill was????

My boys and I went grocery shopping last night...the pantries and cupboards and freezers and frigs were almost bare...(I'd rather have my gums scraped then grocery shop!!)

Can you guess what the bill came to on these two carts?

It blew our minds needless to say....

I got in on post after 87 and will not look again until at least post number 100 this is getting too old and annoying

    LOL Lydia!

I am just going to leave it on this post now, and hit reload ever so often. LOL

Well, when I do a big grocery shopping, where my cart is about over-floweing, it usually costs about $320, so my guess for those 2 carts is $625.00.

    Annoying, I agree.

    Good one, Lydia.

    I say $800
    DH says $230

    I agree, annoying.

She hasn't answered yet ....so I'll put in an answer.
    How about...$190.00.

Daaaaaang - where is she???? Maybe cooking all that stuff by now. We each should get a plate, ya think...

This is a good one, but reading everyone's posts has made me think about paying more attention to prices and deals for the next time I shop.

    I'm thinking $425 w/o a gift. If a contest - maybe $100 (a buck for each item or something???)

    I bet she's cooking or eating!!!*S*

    I guess $619.

    Liiiiiiiiiiz?

I bet Liz had to go to work today/tonight. Since she flies all over and is away for about 18 hours or so at a whack, I'd cut her some slack, people. And she needs to sleep sometime, too. FA's keep weird hours.

My guess- $650. I'd faint if I got a bill that high, but if you only shop once in a while, I guess it wouldn't be too bad.

i'LL GUESS 320. maybe she's waiting till she gets 100 replies before she tells us. It's getting close!

    I'm thinking about $45.00....

Maybe I'll check back in a couple of days a waste of time

I'm sorry guys...I really didn't mean to keep you waiting all day...this is the first day in weeks I've felt well enough to do any work around this place (my left arm is giving me the same grief my right arm did last year so I've been doing nothing but lying around and trying to rest it in between working and just in general trying to keep it from hurting so much!)...so today I felt really good and did a bazillion loads of laundry and cleaned...deep cleaned..I'll probably be sore as the dickens tomorrow but anyways again my apologies for keeping you waiting so long...I really hadn't done any major shopping since before the first of Dec...it was time to clean out the pantries...take stock of what I had and what was in the frig's and freezers...I spent about 2 hours going thru my coupons...(DANG THEY EXPIRE TO FAST THESE DAYS!!)...

here's the receipt...just a little over three feet high...

and here's the total...I nearly died...We bought a coffee maker...4 pounds of hamburger, 3 bags of chicken pieces, a roast..which was dinner tonight and several planned meals for the days ahead...yes there is lots of prepackaged foods...I work from usually 5 in the afternoon to 6 the next morning and I want these teenagers to have something to cook here instead of running to fast food...even though it's basically fast food...it's at home and at least a little healthier then a burrito, burger, whatever...not much wasn't edible...some toothpaste, soap, dental floss...enought to run up almost 12.00 in taxes though...

here she blows...look at that tax..EGADS!!

this was after about 10.00 savings in coupons...I wish Wally World doubled but they never have...as much as I sometimes would rather shop elsewhere...their prices just can't be beat even with belonging to the other groceries savings clubs! I shouldn't have to go until 2010...(yeah I'm dreaming aren't I??!!)

You notice Duncan was checking out the receipt and wondering why there wasn't dog food or treats on there...I'm really in trouble with him...LOL

Are you going to keep us guessing until post #149? C'mon -- the suspense is killing me!

OMG. I think it's good I didn't have teenaged boys.

    Linda

    *******WHEW*******
Now that is one bill I'd have a heart attack over! LOL

I run to the grocery store for just a few things and it costs me $50 and I barely get two bags full.

Oh my goodness! My DH would kill me! You must make reaaaalllllyyy good money, girl! :) I'm curious now - someone made it sound like you were a flight attendant or a pilot!

YIKES!! Hey I was pretty close!! Do I win that good looking guy that was shopping with you? *S*

    Yikes!!!

    Sue

    LOL...chemocurl!
Gees, even at WallyWorld! Hope those groceries last awhile. But, at least you have a full pantry/frig, now.

    THUD !!!!!
I would have had a heart attack if i spent that much on food at one time.Glad DH does the shopping here as i also hate doing it.
    Kathi

WHAT!!! I would be checking that list 5 or 20 times..you just don't have that much in the two carts! Kathy

Sure she does, Kathi and whidbeykathy.

She has some whole, unprepared foods, but lots of processed, stick into the microwave, ready to eat foods, and sodas. That stuff is incredibly expensive per serving.

I'm really not trying to be snarky here, but I could have bought 2 full carts of fresh foods for much less than half the price.

Yes, I would have to prepare some of them - but I required my son to learn how to prepare them also. He did it, or he didn't eat. With the price of one "Hot Pockets" box of four snacks I can make dinner for 4 with lunch leftovers for at least 2 people.

WOW, a bit more than double what I thought was outrages...

Liz, I know what you mean with kids eating at home. Maybe, you need to encourage them to take homeec?

    :)

    Moni

I cannot believe it! I would guess half that. But I have to admit I spent $78 the other day on very little food too.

My father, who was born in 1893, used to tell us that when he was a child, that it would have been physically impossible to carry home $5 worth of groceries.

Mystery solved. Liz was busy today catching up on things. Interesting post Liz. I never would have thought of it!

Thank you-the suspense was killing me all day! And i only guessed 4300.

    Holy guacamole!

I don't know why but I'm still in suspense!! The photos aren't coming thru for me! So please give me the bottom line!

    $841.68 after tazes

Oh crap, I've never spent that much on groceries in my life! You need to find a Save A Lot, Liz! LOL!

WOW! That was a whopping bill.

However, since you are working 11 hour shifts and have teenagers it really does make it difficult.

I've noticed lots of working women rely a lot on crock pots and there are loads of recipes out there on the Internet.

We really enjoy vegetable/beef soup these cold winter days -- take the time to make a huge pot and freeze portions for later. Lots more veggies than beef. That's really handy, too.

Sorry about your arm; hope it's better soon.

Here is a link that might be useful: Crock Pot Recipes

You haven't been to the grocery in roughly 8 weeks. I typically spend $100 a week on our family of four (and our boys are toddler/preschool). You spent about the same amount that I did in eight weeks (assuming you don't go again for another 8 weeks)

If I added up my Wal-Mart bill and Grocery bills for the past 8 weeks - I would be waaaay more than your total, lol!

Dang, it adds up in a hurry...I guess it is just more painless a little at a time..

That bill is more then a 2 week pay check for me...YIKES

That is probably what I spend or close to it....we too buy lots of prepared foods....it is good and easy ......the kids come home starving and want a snack before dinner.....they have gotten so big (esp. T and D) that it takes 2 hotpockets to make them happy now....but I just look at it as if it wasn't spent on groceries it owuld be spent somewhere else.....I hate when I have to do the 2 shopping cart thing....I have learned as much as I hate going....it is easier to go every week...or every 2 weeks....Stacy

I would have been in shock!!!!!

I hope your arm is feeling okay today (and the rest of your body too!).

I have to know--how long did it take you to put it all away and did you have room for all that stuff?????

I don't mind shopping but sure hate unpacking it!!

How long will this last at your house, Liz? If you don't mind, what's your annual food budget?

I budget $8000/yr. for all the stuff we buy at a grocery store, including the non-edibles and wine, liquor. We're retired Seniors and are home for breakfast, lunch and dinner -- teatime and snacks too.

One of our local groceries had a weekly promotion of $6 off if you spent $60. That's now $6 off if you spend $80. I use coupons and shop about every week and a half. I never go into the aisles of pop, bottled water, junk food. Never buy at the Deli counter either. But, hey, I can defrost and nuke with the best of 'em! LOL

I keep thinking of the exchange rate for Canada and looking at the picture of the carts..... hopefully you won't have to shop for a longgggggggg time Liz.

I couldn't imagine finding the room for all of that! And we have an extra fridge and freezer LOL. This has been a post. Let us know when you need to shop again-I'm curious. Do you ever go to the club stores-like BJ's or Sams? With the BJ's rewards membership (2% of your purchases back) it would pay for your membership easily. Not sure how they compare to Walmart though, probably not much difference in price.

I didn't even want to venture a guess without some idea what was in there and the picture was pretty blurry but I could make out the Stouffer's, the water, what I assumed was pop, heard about an appliance. But didn't know if there was a trick to it about gift cards or something. But I was pretty sure it wasn't a "coupon queen" purchase by the items and quantities that I could see.

Occasionally I'll do a "deli run" where I pick up deli stuff for a few days meals. Talk about adding up quick! But I have to say, spending money on food doesn't bother me so much, even if it's convenience items. As said, it's better than McJunkle's

Was wondering when the answer would come! Thought maybe the Forum Gestapo would turn you in or something! :D

Oh, and over $1000 CAD spent and NOT ONE DOGGIE BISCUIT???? Poor Duncan has a legitimate complaint!

Just occurred to me... do you use a trailer to haul all that stuff? LOL

Oh and the first thing that struck me about that picture was I have NEVER seen a store with that much open space in it! Short of when they're remodeling or resetting the store! What gives?

And after flipping back and forth and taking another look at the two carts.... move over chemocurl!

Well, girl, after all that work and spending all that money I hope you don't have to go again for quite awhile!!

Hope that your arm is feeling better. Don't over do it - you always do!!!! (Dirt will not hurt you - it'll only make your resistance stronger! LOL)

I didn't venture a guress, but I am not a bit surprised with having fed teens and just the normal day to day stuff. My DH always called me GM Judy, because I tended to buy a lot of general merchandise during the years when the kids were younger.
I remember well in Texas when you were not even allowed to buy things on Sunday that were not food in a grocery store. I was called "Blue Sunday" I tried to buy a pacifier for a really cranky baby once and was turned down. Boy was I mad!!
Thank goodness those days are gone.
I will start another post about that and see how many of us had to deal with it.

Not knocking noone or Liz but I refuse to buy grocs at walmart. My Sis and SIL works for walmart and I have heard bad stories about meats and other frozen things at walmart. Some will shop ,buy their groc first and than after they have shop for a hr or so they go back and lay their meats down and the workers will find the things and go back place it back in the meat dept or frozen dept.It doesn't matter how long its been laying there.I hope you get my point.Yes it can happen any where. But I can not stand the thought of this.If you do shop at walmart or other groc stores be sure to not pick the first in line.I always try to dig back and get my things on the shelves further back.Call me nuts but after I heard this it made me more caution.PLease do not be mad but I am trying to give a hint.Hugs Judy
