The surprise when I came home from work today

The granite was installed two days early! I was planning to work from home on installation day, so I kinda wished my contractor had updated me. On the flipside - I should say, upside - I think it looks great!

Here is the only seam:

Sorry this is picture-heavy - I'm just excited!

Thanks for looking!

It is very pretty. What is it called?

Suz - thanks! It's bianco romano.

looks good. is that a 3CM slab with an ogee edge? I told my granite guy to go on and do mine in the ogee, the heck with the cost. I will live only once and probably never do my kitchen again.

Teppy - Thanks! Like a lot of folks on here, I kind of agonized over my choice (and appreciated the input from the GWs). It's the ogee, yes. It was a standard edge where I got the granite. Not sure about the width.

Is this Bianco Romano? It looks just like my granite! Five years of faithful service and we still love it. Nothing fazes it. Oil, lemons, red wine, nothing! We've never re-sealed it.

You'll have to scroll down to see it.

Warning - first photo may scare you! Ha!

Here is a link that might be useful: Twin Granites!

Golddust - it is bianco romano. And, I have to tell you - your photos (found through this board) have inspired me for my backsplash. My preliminary choice is, like yours, a marble subway tile.

I loved your kitchen photos (and your dog photo)!

Cousin kitchens! You are going to love this granite. What a great surprise to come home to!

We have since put in a pot filler above the range top. I really don't use it much but it sure added pop to a plain backsplash. Never got around to taking a photo of it, though.

They are cousin kitchens!! Your cabinets were similar in color to mine, so I was happy to see how nice bianco granite looked with them. I didn't like the black, green or dark grey with my cabs that a lot of people use with the sort of medium-tanny cabs. I had trouble finding a lot of pictures of lighter granite - but, lo and behold, found yours!! I was somewhat torn b/w bianco romano and a "warmer" granite - typhoon bordeaux was one of my finalists - but found myself drawn to the subtler bianco romano.

I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed yours for so many years. And I'm tickled you responded to this thread since I've found your kitchen as an inspiration. Yeah, GW!

Beautiful. That's the best kind of surprise! Congrats...

    Berf - thanks!

Still a lot of "work" to do (and by "work," I mean making decisions about my backsplash and ceiling fan).

    It was a nice surprise!

Great surprise and you didn't even have to fret over it...it
    was just done! Looks great!

I'm excited for you! It looks fantastic!!

Pretty granite! And looks like a nice installation job. :-)

Your granite looks like it's 3CM. Our granite is 2CM - standard for California. We had a bullnose edge put on for a 4 CM fake out! LOL! I'm good at fake outs!

What color are you planning on painting your walls? I'm so tickled that you liked my kitchen enough to call it an inspiration!!! There are so many kitchens that are stunning on this forum. Our kitchen is a modest little kitchen with 5 doors that complicate the layout. The table/baking center (LOL!) gets in the way of function, not to mention stepping over two dogs - one that weighs 120 pounds - but we always eat in the kitchen unless it's Holiday full house or company's over.

I hope you get the same amount of compliments on your kitchen from your guests as we do. People often say, "It's so different from all the dark granite kitchens." (Not that I don't like dark granite. Just not in this house.)

    What a nice surprise!

Though I can totally understand being peeved about not being there! Guys just don't understand, do they?

    Love the edge!

Lovely, congratulations! Have you been sneaking in to pet it as often as you can? ;o)

    Thanks, everyone!
RMLanza - I have been petting and caressing it!

Raehelen - I'm a little peeved about not being there, but glad it appears to have turned out fine.

Golddust - Not sure about the paint color yet (I welcome suggestions ;)). I picked up a few paint chips in taupe, grey, putty and natural tones.

Anyway - thanks for the compliments and support!

Jen - love the granite (I still haven't picked a countertop yet and I am going to have to look at lighter countertops now) and yours is beautiful!

I also like your faucet - I think it is one of the ones I am considering. Which faucet do you have? Do you like it?

    TIA

I think I have all those same color chips for my bathroom! I really want to paint it grey but we coved the ceilings so the ceilings will be the same color as the walls and I'm a bit nervous about grey ceilings...

DH is priming it tonight and I still haven't chosen a color!

Kitchenredo- Thanks! My faucet is Kohler Simplice. The water wasn't hooked back up until yesterday, so I haven't really used it yet. I like the look of it. I had purchased a PricePfister (Ashfield, I believe), but based on some of the commentary/opinions on the boards (some posters reported quality issues with PF), I exchanged it for the Kohler.

Golddust - I hope the grey works for your bathroom. I have to settle on my backsplash in the last few days. I liked your marble backsplash and have preliminary chosed a honed marble w/some warm beigy undertones. I'm trying to decide between doing subway tile for the entire backsplash or doing a row of 4X4s on the bottom, a pencil, and then subways on top (all in the same marble). The backsplash will also be installed on this wall (see below) where there will be 2 shelves installed above the bar - and I'm wondering whether I want to include a simple box/feature/pattern (I'm having trouble articulating this), centered under the shelves:

    Thanks!

Jen - Thanks - that's the one I want. Love the faucet even more now that I see it in a real kitchen. I am going to get the one for my prep sink as well. Off to check the internet for the best price......

Can't wait to see more photos!
