I think the gold might look really nice and would like to see it, if you can get a hold of one.

Before you decide on gold, which I think would look great, if you use that chair for reading I would keep the white. I learned the hard and expensive way not to buy colored lamp shades for heavy duty reading.

If you can get a softer white I would go with that. And lamps with shades lined in pink make everybody look younger and prettier, just fyi :)

Ok. I'm more confused than ever. Instead of the darker goldish shade, I brought home a light goldish tan but smaller just to check the color. I also picked up two drum shades in eggshell for some other lamps and put one on the figural one to see how eggshell looks. Well, I think I like the smaller shade better and I may even like the drum best. The cut corner rectangle matches the shape of the lamp base, but the drum looks so retro. And I think I like the eggshell better than the tan.Can someone please help me choose?

I like both but if I had to choose, I vote for the drum shade for a little more of an updated look.

IMO the drum shade really doesn't belong to that type of lamp---- the shape is all wrong proportionally. I like the smaller, clipped corner shade, but can't tell the difference between the gold and off white on my iPad.

I would have guessed a taller straight drum would have been original to the lamp. It's from the 1940's and attributed to James Mont. Do you know what kind of shade it may have had when new?
