First time poster needing thoughts/opinions...etc. **PICS**

Hi all!

This is my first time posting on here, but I've been reading for a few weeks now. I'm soooo glad I found this site, as a lot of you are so good at this decorating thing!

I know stuff that I like, but my problem is putting it together when I have it all!

Anyway - my current situation revolves around finding new dressers/bedroom furniture. I do have a bed that I love & am keeping it, but I don't know how to pick dressers to go w/ it...

I've taken the liberty of adding pictures of the bed and I guess what I'm looking for is for someone to help me pick something out! I'm a visual person, so if you can show pictures of what you are talking about, that would be great! I can then go from there & pick stuff out at my local furniture store.

I prefer darker woods, but I'm not sure what types of woods/stains to look for to go w/ the bed that I already have. I would like to stay away from cherry if possible (I love it, but I'm going for a more "neutral" stain, so to speak, versus something w/ so much "red" in it).

As far as styles go, I'm at a loss there as well. I would think something a little more clean lined (although not "modern;" Maybe transitiional?) would be better vs. ornate (which I'm not a big "ornate" detail fan, I prefer cleaner lines, but not sterile lines).

I hope these pics work!

Please ignore the stark white walls (these were taken over the summer before we painted)... the walls are now SW Kilim Beige (for the whole house, for now).

The bed itself is an antique bronze finish (which I love). I hope these pictures captured the coloring of the bed well enough.

Your bed is beautiful. It looks like there is a dresser in there now. Is that something new furniture has to coordinate with? If so, a picture would be great.

I have a bed with nightstands that do not match but that are identical. I would recommend against that and instead find a round table for the window side and maybe something square for the other side (is there room for 2 nightstands?)

Here is a cherry group - I know you said no cherry but it seems that is what they show with iron???

I am not sure of the quality of this furniture --

And here is something that would be sort of american colonial-ish?

    Hi,

It's not that I dislike cherry (I think it is beautiful), I just was not sure if it would work w/ the antique bronze finish of the bed (vs. being a black rod iron). Not to mention, I'm having a hard time finding cherry furniture that isn't more on the louis-phillipe look vs. what I'm looking for (a little less ornate/scrolly).

The dresser that is in there now will not be in there. That is being moved to our guest room. I actually love that dresser & the chest that goes w/ it, but it is too small for the room & in comparison to my bed. it belonged to my husband's great grandmother & when she passed we got it.

I was thinking something else might work (see link below)... but I haven't the slightest clue where to find unfinished furniture, so I can paint it myself (I guess I can always check 2nd hand stores & CL to see if they have anything)... I was thinking I could do dressers/chests in the burgandy-ish (its like a plum/burgandy) color in my bedding?? Thoughts?

kc - thank you for doing those links! I didn't see the link thing below my original message!

I saw this one at first, which is similar to the one above. They have a 'tomato' finish that would match your bedding maybe...

OP-I don't have much to help but just wanted to say that I am in your exact situation-bed I love and the rest has to go-and I know that it is hard to find things to go along. I think with your bed you can just consider it a neutral and a lot of stuff would work. I think round on one side and square on the other always looks nice. Look on overstock and see if you see side tables you like. Even though you do not have a black wrought iron bed I still think you could mix black with it like this:

and on the other side add a round table with fabric to play up your bedding.

I watch Overstock like a hawk. Everytime I find something I like, I second guess myself. ACK! I hate being unsure of my choices. When I do finally make a choice, it always comes together.

My bed is actually FROM overstock (it's still on there. I am shocked at the quality for the price I paid. It is a solid bed).

Very pretty bed! Love the color of the finish, too. I think it is just as versatile, and perhaps a bit softer in feel, as black wrought iron would be. (Be sure you pull the comforter down on the end so it covers the blanket underneath). A dark solid burgundy throw or coverlet folded on the end of the bed would be very pretty. I could see a round table on the left, covered with a burgundy damask tablecloth, as one of the nightstands.

Because the bed has so much wonderful curvy detail, I would try to find furniture that has some curves to it. Not frou-frou, but something with some softer touches rather than very boxy and straight. What about something like this? The warm antiqued white would be very pretty, and the darker wood top would compliment your bed. A little curvy in spots, but mostly clean lines.

I went looking for other pieces in the group, and they are linked below. Funny, that when I did that I found the bed, which has scrolled iron on it! LOL

I love the iron bed and the beautiful bedding on it. I think Les's suggestion is a great idea. I love the Richmond Collection bedroom furniture and the scroll lamps for your bedroom. I just wish the lamps had more than a 60 watt maximum bulb for each lamp.
