covering old wood walls

Hello,

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in...but here goes. We have the old wooden horizontal plank walls behind layers and layers of wallpaper in our 1949 house. In one room we paneled over it, in another we drywalled, in yet another, my husband took days and days and days to pull out nails, prep, etc etc and paint the walls. They look great! Now we're working on our tiny little hall/office room. I peeled the paper off to fine hundreds of tiny nails (used to hold the layers of wallpaper up!) with rusted heads that will not come out! We could do the work of cutting them off with a dremel, banging them in flush, using rust primer to cover them - but that sounds like too much work. What would you do to cover very rough bumpy walls? We prefer something natural that doesn't cost a mint - actually something very cheap. We know about the textured wallpaper and covering with fabric/paneling/beadboard. What else? Any ideas? What would you use? Thanks so much.

Julie
