Do you like this metal sleigh bed??

I love the height and design. I was hoping the side rails would be able to hide under the dust skirt, like most metal beds, does that bother you? I wanted black metal,I suppose I could paint it someday if I don't like the color. It's under $300 so I'm not out alot of money if I'm not satisfied. Here's my bedding, what do you think, should I order it??

No, I don't like it. The footboard and the headboard look like they are from two different beds, and your bedding (pretty) doesn't look like it would complement the frame at all.

Kswl, I also wondered if my bedding was too busy for the frame, that's why I posted a picture of it. Thank you for your opinion.

I have a metal bed and think the next time around I would do something different. I don't find it comfortable for sitting up to read. I cannot use a bedskirt with my frame either.

Arapaho, thanks for pointing that out. I just lost all desire for a metal bed, as I love to read in bed before I go to sleep. I don't know why I never thought of that!

Sewwhatsnew, I think the white bed in the first picture is prettier with that bedding, or a warm wood tone would do too.

I have a metal headboard and love it. You only need to prop a pillow or a husband and you can easily read in bed. The bedding shown would be a bit busy for me with any bed frame.

Is that Lexington Seaside Retreat you currently have in the white?

I have a large metal bed and I like it very much. I read in bed w/ no problems w/ my pillows propped up. I like that the bottom of the scrolls sort of 'cradle' my pillow and head if that makes sense.

Weird thing - I also like that I can get an awesome stretch w/ my metal bed that I could never get w/ a wooden bed.

Ttodd and I think alike. I do a stretch every day before I get out of bed and it wouldn't be the same, in fact I wouldn't even bother, if my bed wasn't metal. I love my bed and would never give it up. I also read in bed and have no problems.

My metal headboard isn't a sleigh version - just straight up & down, so that could be the difference as to why I'm not totally happy with mine.

I fell in love with a nickel-plated metal bed once when I was looking to furnish our guest room (Restoration hardware, I think), and so spent a lot of time shopping metal beds.

In my experience, virtually all of the less-expensive ones and surprisingly many of the expensive ones felt quite 'rickety' when shaken (as one might do when in bed and not sleeping ;-) Also, IMO, once the luster of newness wore off, many ended up looking 'kinda cheap' -- tubes that were all the same size and very thin, poor quality welding or cheap 'made in China' hardware, rough edges.

I'd suggest Craigslist for something simple and much more solid in a warm wood or cream tone --

We have the Cottage iron bed from LL Bean and we LOVE it! We have no trouble comfortably reading at night (we both read before bed every single night). It's sturdy and really well made; in fact, it has survived a number of military moves (some across oceans) beautifully (and believe me, I have lost a ton of furniture to the movers haphazard handling). We are both tall and I love the extra bit of room the curved footboard provides (in addition to just looking pretty). It has a 5 star rating at the LL Bean site and I'm not surprised.

Checked out your Cottage bed from LLBEAN

Very pretty bed happyafawife, it's $750 delivered, perhaps a bit more than I wanted to spend, but I really like it.

We have had our metal bed for over 10 years and are really happy with it. The airy-ness of it keeps it from looking heavy and I like that with the wood furniture, it is not an overload of wood. Our wood pieces all match each other and in our set, the bed would have been one element too many matching.
When we bought our bed, it was dark green with a gold wash over parts of it. When we renovated last year, it would not have worked in our new master bedroom scheme, so I spray painted it shiny black and then did silver over that as its wash, and love how it came out. It went from cozy to sophisticated by changing the colors. I was almost tempted to just do the black, but the silver over it softened the look. My dh figured we'd get a new bed, but money was (is) tight and I told him to give me a shot with a few cans of spray paint. That was a great investment and I expect to keep it at least 10 more years....

Btw - the rickety feeling is if it is not tightened enough. A little wd40 will help if you have a squeak. It has performed like a champ for us despite sometimes have 2 kids in it with us roughousing.

I've also considered this Janis metal bed, still not sure if the design of all the metal beds goes with my comforter set.
Once I get the nightstands finished, they need to be varnished, I'll post a room shot for you.

The White headboard is an internet photo shot, I do not have a headboard. The 3 Euro Shams on the bed are going to hide most of the headboard and we do not read in bed, but wonder if I'm going to lose my pillows between the mattress and frame??

The bed in the first picture looks exactly like mine, which we purchased from JCPenney. I hate it...there is such a waste of space between the headboard and the mattress (at least 10 inches) that I have to keep a blanket tucked in there so the pillows don't fall in at night. All this wasted space means it takes up a LOT more space in our already small bedroom. How I wish I had gone for straight rails, but I always loved a sleigh bed & thought I could never afford a wooden one. Horrible, horrible design...avoid it!
