Show me your ceiling lighting in master bedroom, please!

I have a ceiling fan that I really don't like and want something a bit more formal looking but haven't been able to find anything that didn't look too much like it belonged in a dining room. For those of you who replaced your ceiling fan with a hanging light or pendant, have you been happy with the result? Thanks for any help you can send my way.

I don't think I have a picture, but I gave due consideration to this question when we put a window in our master and repainted about 4 years ago. I thought about a vintage chandelier or something similar. But our valley in California gets HOT. Ceiling fans are useful, fabulous, necessary, and....did I say necessary? Also, I like good light in my room. So I bought a new fan that looked good and has 4 (60 watt) lights. It's on a dimmer so that works too. And I have bedside lamps for ambiance.

Here is a pic of our bedroom light.........I would be scared to show my whole room LOL : ( Very dated wall unit bed set! I had to let DH pic some furniture for the house we moved into 5yrs ago and I figured no one would see and I could live with it..........so just a pic of the light for now : )

I was playing with drape fabric here but this is one of our bedroom lights:

I'm not sure if I have a better pic, but here's another (I'm posting as I search)

I don't think I have a pic of the third one directly, but if you look in the big mirror you'll see it reflected:

I don't think they feel too dining room (but then I have a big chicken hanging in the dining room chandelier so what do I know) :OP I have all of these on dimmers and we really like them.

we just put a semi-flush in our master (DH's really picky about lighting and wouldn't let me do anything too large, pretty and dangling). We also have 4 can lights in the corners of the tray ceiling, rope lighting around the crown and reading light cans above the bed. I like the actual light, but I'll have to see how it looks once we've gotten our room decorated.

OK here's mine. Needless to say my husband hates the pink and the flowers but I love the chandelier. It is painted off white with pale pink and green (?) roses and is truly beautiful. I think it's too feminine for a public place such as a dining room so I suppose it was made for a bedroom.

I have a ceiling fan that can take a light kit, but I don't like the harshness of overhead lights, so we're doing with just the fan up there. It's a lifesaver in the summers here, though, and I can't imagine sleeping comfortably without it. I do have nice reading lamps on both bedside tables, one on the dresser and a floor lamp in one of the reading areas, as well, to light the place up. I also have a small chandy over in the corner, in the other reading area. It's on a rheostat, so I can adjust the intensity as needed.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas. Like many of you, I'm hesitant to get rid of the ceiling fan because of those hot nights when despite the A/C, the ceiling fan helps to move the air freely and cool off the room, too. However, I really hate the look of the one I have now so I'm going to try to find a fan that is much prettier, probably without a light kit. If anyone has any suggestions for ceiling fans, please feel free to post them. I really need help at this point. I've saved the master bedroom until last and am out of ideas and incentive, not to mention $$$!

There will be different views from different people and the views will vary. If you are not happy with the fan, it is best to change it with some kind of lghting product like a pendant or chandelier. But it will be you who has to decide what will be fitted. I can help you by saying check this website www.purelighting.co.uk and you might find something for yourself to fit in instead of your fan.

We don't have an overhead light, as I pretty much hate them. If you don't care about the light, I agree that you should find a fan you like and not worry about a light kit.

We have a cathedral ceiling in the MB and the fan/light is white so it pretty much fades into the background (ceiling is white, too.)

I completely agree with lynninnm and les. I hate overhead bedroom light fixtures and any place we have lived I have immediately replaced the ceiling light, if there was one, with a fan (with no lights). We use the fan year-round. Ceiling lights, no matter the wattage, are cold and harsh and you need additional lamps in the room anyway. We have night table lamps which are similar to the size we have on living room end tables and a floor lamp in the sitting area of the MBR. Warm lighting is so much nicer than a cold overhead light, imo, so enjoy sleeping with a fan and scrap the ceiling fixture.
