What kind of window coverings do you have in your bathroom?

We are in the final stages of remodeling our upstairs hall bath. I have no idea what kind of window covering I want. There is one window on the side of the toilet. We need a total privacy solution because that window looks out to the next-door neighbors. What do you think works best? Shutters? Curtain? Roller shade?

What amount of light do you want in the bathroom? I have shutters on my bathroom window which doesn't allow much light. For me, that's great. I previously had a light, white pleated shadeon that window. It gave us complete privacy and lots of light. These can also be made to lower from the top down to give even more light.

I'd like light to come in from the window. You don't find that the louvers on the shutters allow much light?

Do you need the window to be completely covered or can the top remained uncovered? Like daisy said, a top down treatment can leave the top uncovered for light and the bottom covered for privacy. It's not here yet but this is what I will have in my bath cause I need light and don't want to climb in the tub every day to open/close blinds or shutters.

That's a good question. I guess I need to go over to the neighbor's house and look into my bathroom window from their upstairs hall window. (We live in a close-in, first subrurb of NYC, so houses are close together here.) I should also mention that the bathroom has white subway tile and a marble basketweave floor -- I am trying to achieve a 1920s style.

I like to make simple lined roman shades out of the same fabric as the shower curtain. Then you can keep them up for daylight and lower them when you need privacy, and they dress the room and the window nicely. Shutters are nice, too. If you choose them, be sure you use ones that can live happily in a moist environment,

If there isn't a really nice view out that window by the toilet that you have to see, what about a frosted vinyl decorative window covering for it? It would let light in but give you total privacy. They peel right off, too, if you ever decide to go with a different look.
