We have a pact--the top of the dresser

wanna join us?

DD redid the top of her dresser w/ jewelry and her hair stuff (she's big into ponytails and headbands now).

I pointed that she and I have the same problem--we just set stuff down on the top of the dresser. And then we can't use it for the things it's intended for.

So, I have to do my dresser-top by week's end. And then, if she and I keep our dressers clutter-free (and our closets clean) for ONE MONTH, we're going to go to Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream.

I told her, I'll have to keep it clean, bcs I know she can come in any time and say, "hey, mom!" Accountability!

How's your dresser?

I will join in. Right now my dresser is okay, except for the pile of earrings and necklaces I didn't bother to put away. I've been thinking about taking care of it. Now, to keep up with you two, I will clear it off and give myself a treat if I keep it clutter-free for a month.

The bedroom closet is still nicely organized since I put in the modular units, but I could move the unused hangers.

    I'll join in too.

I'm working on my bedroom this week and the dresser is a major part of that! I cleared 'around' it last night, but not 'on' it LOL Putting off the worst task till last, I guess.

TS - I think you and your DD are doing really well :-)

Thanks, Denise! She's so cute, my DD, and so excited about it.

I'll tell her we have company. Those of us who are behind, let's say we have until Friday morning.

Mine isn't bad, just a couple of bills & a shirt I threw on top instead of folding. I want to get it completely clear & keep it that way, so I'll join in.

No dresser in my room. No big flat spot to store stuff on.
My problem is starting to be the counter. I'll join you and clean off my counter. I can keep it clean I think and want to stop a developing habit of putting stuff on here 'for now'.

I'm in! And there's a Cold Stone Creamery a mile from our house, so that would be a fun incentive for me, too. It would be a fun walk for DH and me on a weekend afternoon, after the holidays are over.

The first step is to FIND the top of our dresser -- that's a huge hot spot in this house. I'm off to do just that. Thanks, Talley Sue's darling daughter, for the incentive!

OK - I cleared off the top of the dresser yesterday. It's not dusted, but it's cleared. I would like to get a new runner for it. One that matches my new duvet cover.

I do have a problem with hair products and moisturiser. They need to be used every day, but end up sprawled all over the top of the dresser. I need to corral them neatly.

What I did clear off the dresser were clips, necklace, bracelet, tweezers, magazines, clothes, make up (hardly ever wear it, so goodness knows how long it had been sitting up there).

My fancy dancy double decker lazy susan holds all my lotions. I have been making myself put my earrings away where they belong every night. So far I've been compliant :)
It was great to find some long lost papers when I first cleared the top.

What a good idea! I have a real problem with keeping my dresser clutter free. Since I don't eat ice cream, I will treat myself to some wonderful goat milk soap and matching lotion if I keep my dresser clutter free for a month.
And if I keep my bedside tables, computer desk and dining room table clutter free for a month, I will treat myself to a therapeutic massage.
    Thanks for the inspiration!!
I will write out my contract now! And to make it work, I will have DH read it and witness it other wise I will not be accountable.

Just thought I'd check in--I'm off from work and working frantically at home on all sorts of organizing stuff (my mom flew in to help).

DD's dresser is still in great shape. She asked if it was OK to put a book there, bcs it's flat and she can still open the drawer w/ the hair bands.

I told her, only if it's the book you're currently reading. she got up from the table and moved it.

Mine is in good shape too--in fact, it's in BETTER shape, bcs I moved the iron over to the top of the lingerie chest. My son was changing into jamamas in my room, and he put his elastic belt on my dresser--little bugger!

    So we're doing strong.

And I'm having the same reaction that came when I started making my bed. Besides the practical value, of being able to dust easily, etc., I'm ENJOYING the CALM in the room that comes from this pared-down space.

    Good luck, everybody!

(oh, and DS, age 6.75, is joining us--but not w/ a dresser. He's going to get dressed promptly every morning)

How are you all doing? My dresser has been clean for a longer stretch than ever in my life! (It helps that I found new permanent homes for some of the stuff)

And DS has been getting dressed promptly, too!

My bedroom dresser is still clean! I almost goofed this morning by lazily leaving my earring box open and in the wrong place, but then I thought of this challenge, and I closed it and put it away.

oh, yay, Wendy, we're haunting you!!!

That's when this forum really kicks in.

Oh, and I said to DD last night, just before bed, "you need to take a look at your dresser--you shouldn't leave it like that" because she'd laid a pen and two books on it. And candy wrappers on the floor. "and while you're in there, take care of the floor."

"like what?" she asked. We walked in, and everything was in its proper place!

Uh-oh. I think I've mentioned here that my dresser top is beautifully clear. But that was before the guy came to install DSL and I moved a whole bunch of disks and jewel cases and operating manuals and a box of photos to the dresser...and left them there. Thanks, Talley Sue. I think. :-)

OK, Wendy, Denise, Greta, Ginger, Susan, Carol....

*our* dressers are great! Well, DD needs to move two things off it tonight, but they're clearly temporary.

And she got on my case about a brass screw I'd set there (to wait until I figured out how to get it to STAY in the doorknob shield on the bedroom door). But I moved it by day's end!

This is getting kind of fun. The bed is always made, and the dresser is always clear. They bug me if they aren't.

The DR table bugs me too, but I don't get it cleared off as frequently as I used to. Gotta get better there.

I'd like to get the top of my dresser cleared off, too, because I have a small pinecone Christmas tree that lights up that I can put there. I think I'll make this a goal for myself this week!

Ok, I cleaned the top of my dresser on December 26th! Better late than never. I dusted and dust mopped under the bed and dressers, too. It's a good feeling to do one small step.

DD has had a couple of little things on her dresser for a couple of days--I forgot to check up on her this morning. I've been GREAT--except that DH put his Christmas present there for a few days.

OK, it's beena month! We're going to the Cold Stone Creamery on Sunday! For sundaes!

I will say, I still have in my life and in my home the things (or types of things) that used to clutter the dresser. Now they're on the floor. But, I feel some pressure to get stuff off the floor, whereas I didn't feel the pressure to get stuff off the dresser.

But the kind of stuff that ends up there still exists--stuff that doesn't have a home yet, and that I can't take the time to find a home for NOW (bcs its' bedtime, usually). Or stuff that I need to treat in some way (like getting the paint off the knee of my favorite khakis), and either I can't do it now bcs it's too involved, or I haven't decided which method I'm going to use.

I can clean it up, and it'll return. S'pose I ought to move one of those big baskets into the bedroom, to hold it?

Nah, mostly bcs I'm trying to get my room to be something easy to clean. Bcs of allergies.

Plus, it would immediately stop bothering me. If it's on the floor, it bugs me, and I do something w/ it sooner than I would if it was nicely in a basket.
