Need a kitty fur friendly duvet that fits a specific decor!

I am hoping for a little direction here, if there are any other websites anyone knows of that might be a little more specific to this type of problem it would be most welcome.

We built a new home. Didn't pick out new bedding beforehand, but knew we wanted to do a master suite with an island/tropical style theme. So we painted the walls this gorgeous shade of teal. The floors are laminate and have the look of bleached driftwood. Trim & baseboard are white, as well as the ceiling (required by code where I live I think to have that ugly white spackle on the ceilings).

We have some black & white original artwork to hang on the walls once we get everything sorted.

Bed is a white 4 post bed from Ikea (Edlund I believe).

SO! My problem is:

We have a very furry black & white cat. No matter what color the bedding is, you can see the fur she sheds on EVERYTHING. Otherwise, I would have probably just gone with a nice white set. We have a king size duvet on a queen bed.

For the life of me I cannot find a duvet cover that doesn't absorb all the cat hair in the room, but also matches the room.

It also, absolutely MUST, be washer/dryer safe. I won't even buy something if it says "dry clean only".

Training the cat to not go on the bed isn't an option. She is 5 years old and has slept on me since she was a kitten, and that's the way it is going to stay. Shaving off her fur is also not acceptable.

I have scoured every store that sells bedding -in my area that is-, various websites (including overstock.ca) and I cannot find something that works with the room. Maybe there is a color that would look good that I haven't thought of yet?

Does anyone have some input/shared a similar experience? We will also be putting curtains (or drapes) around the bed, and probably some sort of rug underneath. I can post pictures if that helps. I just don't know what to do anymore, I have spent a year trying to find something that works and coming up empty.

Would prefer something that ships to Canada, but have an American address I could use if I got desperate.

Our little bundles of hair are always on our minds. I am with you trying to find a fabric that does not hold the hair and is easy to clean. I few years gack we were looking for a comforter that was washable and would not atract and hold our dogs hair but did not have any luck. We were told to find a faux silk fabric, (Polyester fabric) and that would help my problem. The real problem came in that I could not find one that matched our room. What I was again advised to do is to purchase the faux silk fabric and have a local work room make up the comforter. You could do the same thing up in Canada. There is a Canadian decorative fabric manufacture called Maxwell fabrics that sells to interior designers and that have a bunch of different fabrics to choose from.

I had the same problem, as I'm sure many of us do. I bought a duvet cover from Garnet Hill that they call "sateen." It is all cotton, very finely woven and not shiny like the name might imply. What it is, is slick. Not slick enough that it slides off the bed, but slick enough that kitty hair doesn't really stick too easily to it. Plus the pattern I got hid a lot. This is the one I have but they no longer have the color I have, which probably wouldn't suit your decor any more than what I am linking. But it is just to give you an idea of the kind of fabric and pattern that worked for me and my kitty.

I had been looking at sateen actually. I have some sateen sheets, but they were for my old double bed. Having a hard time finding a washer/dryer safe one though that matches haha. I am thinking maybe a solid color if I do sateen, like a warm vanilla color or something since those tones are already in the floor. Long as the cat hair slides off...

Actually on that Garnet Hill link there was a really nice Eileen Fisher "lustrous cotton" one. I could handle shiny if it worked in the room.

Chelsea, the bed linen link didn't work for me :( looks like the server is down on their end.

I would chose a print fabric. I think it does a much better job of hiding the fur between washings. You could always buy sheets or fabric yardage and have it sewn into a cover. It's basically a giant pillow case with buttons, snaps, or velcro.

Here's a pretty tropical set in sateen. I also saw a great print on the JCPenney site, but I don't think it was sateen. If you want to look at it, just go to www.jcpenney.com and put tropical comforter set in the search box.

I, too, would stick with a print. The sateen isn't magic and you'll still have cat fur on the bed; it just makes it easier to get off - it doesn't stick as easily as a rougher fabric. A solid color will show all the fur.

Here's a washable tropical sateen with teal in it. Your kitty would be beautiful on it! (this site only has a twin, but there is a king on Amazon for less. This one showed the print better, I thought).

Hm, I guess this is my problem. I have not found any patterns that I liked, I am not a big fan of the flat out tropical flowers/palm trees/shells kind of thing. I'm more of the mindset of the more "serene" hotel kind of style. Seems like when I find one I like there is always something wrong (not washable, too small for my duvet, etc). The link here is a good example of what my style is like(and I almost bought it too), but it's dryclean only. My boyfriend's mom has this one in a different color/pattern in a vacation house and she said it's a nightmare to clean.

My current duvet cover is a white/grey/dark grey from overstock. I thought the 100% cotton would be easy because that's what my old one was, but it was decimated by cat hair in one night.

That's one gorgeous duvet. I can see why it would be hard to find something that beautiful and washable. Maybe buying fabric and having one made is your best bet. Good luck.
