How can I paint and decorate around a dark green leather couch?
Comments (116)Hi again, I still like Carol's idea of the storage wall surrounding the doorway. I'm thinking the doorway to the kitchen, although I would just do something floor to ceiling on both sides, not above the doorway. Not much space there anyway and I think that emphasizing vertical lines will make the ceiling look taller. You could do a combination of closed and open storage, put the TV in it, do something clever with lighting... You could perhaps work in a seat where the table with the lamp on it is now. I'll see if I can find some pics to illustrate my ideas. That wall colour really is beautiful. It looks so calm and nice and is a great combination with the floor. Love it!...See MoreHelp with furniture arrangement around a corner fireplace
Comments (5)Float either a sofa or a small sectional at the same angle as the FP & I agree with leelee on placenent of the TV to the left of FP over or on a media center credenza. The best way is to take your measurements of the large pieces & place blue painters tape on floor to see if things fit. Don't buy a sofa or sectional prior to taking measurements. This will be a challenge, but challenges lead us to the best solutions. Will you be including a table & chairs within this area as well?...See MoreBase molding - how do I go around a corner with an archway?
Comments (18)If mitered with the baseboard isn't an option, for whatever reason -- such as when you have that tall vertical piece -- then a single flat smooth piece of shelving board that extends from outside edge of the vertical piece to outside edge of the vertical piece is the best idea. Not baseboard -- no design/detail. Focus on the two vertical pieces to which you're short trim piece will be affixed and make it the height of that trim's ledge -- higher than the baseboard. You could then round the corners of this taller trim board a bit. This is an afterthought to an earlier post when I was focused on the idea of mitering the corner. I believe not mitering this piece at all is a better idea than mitering from bottom of the groove to bottom of the groove. I believe mike_lee2 and I have a similar idea but I wouldn't want to remove and cut the vertical though -- that would make the taller board seem a bit out of place -- and trying to cut it without removing it -- getting the cut straight and at a 90 degree angle while not damaging the wall -- would be very difficult. Tried doing this with a storm door trim once ... nope., not a good idea....See MoreTile backsplash around rounded corners?
Comments (10)Now I see the rounded edge at the right side of your sink. I actually have the same tile in my bathroom above the tub. As you can see a smooth edge tile goes up the shower wall (lowes). You could use that edge tile at the end of the your wall where it begins to round to the breakfast bar. You could also put the same edge tile around the window, if you decide that casing would look off from the rest of the house. I think either would look great! Regardless I would paint the recess wall portion of the window white....See Morefranksmom_2010
