help with paint to match carpet, furniture..i've got pictures!

Hello. This is the first time I have posted a question in a forum but I do need help! Here goes. We are in the midst of a remodel and need help choosing a living room color that will coordinate with,

1. Chocolate brown, low pile wool carpet

2. Golden yellow, tufted velvet couch and love

3. Built in bookcases stained deep brown (can be painted white if needed)

4. Adjacent hardwood floors in entry

5. Constellation mirror

6. Gold leaf wall sconces inherited from Nana

The room is smaller in size, recieves nice sunlight from large windows and will be a fussy kind of room in a non fussy house with 4 kids. We'll loosen it up with some fun pillows, etc. The window trim and floor boards are white... What else can I share that would help? We are kind of a no rules kind of house as far as decor..could you tell :/

Please help. I'm color challenged.

Eek. how do I add pictures?

If you have a photobucket or other online storage album you can add photos from there by copy and pasting the HTML code from there into your message box here. The photo itself will not show until you Preview Message.

What are the colors of the adjacent room and can you see that room from the LR? Think about off white, rather than white. I must sound like a broken record, but I love SW Dover White. I also have Greek Villa not on my wall yet. Picked them b/c they're both warm, rather than cool. Oh, but I read that your trim and floorboards are white--white white or ???? How about a soft warm, brownish taupe w/ just a touch of color. Or pink. Did you see the pink post above? Take a look at Stinkygardner's pink living room. It's gorgeous and tres femme.

thank you for the photo posting help..I'm the proud new owner of a photobucket!

We are in the didst of a whole house remodel so the adjacent room color is still to be determined. My trim is, unfortunately, white white. But hey, I can fix that! Thank you for any help you throw at me!

    Spudish:
I never make paint suggestions because of my lack of ability to do so, but I'll be frank with you here. If I owned such gorgeous pieces as you, I'd be making a call to a professional paint expert to make sure they were shown off to full advantage. That mirror alone (which is to-die-for, and I know it's $$$) is worth the call. She can't toot her own horn but amysrq, who posts here, is the one I'd call.

Maybe you can use brown paint somewhere in your room. Here is a beautiful inspiration picture for you.

What makes the above photo work in my opinion is the only brown wall is the fireplace wall and bookcases as accent. It has the yellow furniture and dark floors in common although the addition of an area rug in a light color helps to brighten the space. Notice the other walls look like an antique white. Very pretty picture. I would bring some of the brown up onto the sofa and love seat with some pillows in a contemporary print like this:

Mmmm... chocolate! I love chocolate browns, but I have no decorating skills so don't take my advice.

Dee, thank you for the kind words..I followed your advice and looked up your color diva, emailed, waiting for a response. The mirror was money, but not so much of mine. I bought it at an auction and boy was I excited! That's why paint is so important..once that mirror goes up, it will be difficult to get it down.

Cam, how did you find that photo? It has all the right elements.bookcases, etc. Nice sleuthing, I love the photo, unfortunately, I don't think I have a wall that would work..no mill work to define it.

KMCG your comment is a stroke of brilliance..bring the brown onto the couch to ground it to the floor, where are those pillows from? I am excited to press on, so many good ideas. What do you think about an padded/upholstered coffee table/ottoman? Or a glass coffee table? Thanks again to all!

Aqua or teal could work if you want to go full blown retro. Orange would be appropriate, but I just don't like the combo ;)
